Poor idle, hard start in the mornings and gas smell and slight hesitation on move off

Changed air filters, spark plugs (using the recommended),cleaned injectors, cleaned throttle body and i have seen check engine light....hard start is mostly in the mornings after the engine has been switched off for a long period and the gas fumes seem to be coming from a ventilation tube on top of the gas tank(changed it but still having issue)...i also notice there is no vacum sound whenever i remove the gas cap....thats when i started noticing all these symptoms.

SOURCE: Hi Rick, Good afternoon.

Usually black soot on your spark plugs indicates a rich air/fuel mixture. This can sometimes be fixed up with some basic maintenance. This can involve also changing your spark plug wires. The other thing that you should check out is the fuel pressure. If the fiel pressure is too high then this can cause the ratio to be too high. You should also check your timing. On newer vehicles timing cannot be changed however if it is off then this could indicate a problem with the engine's computer. Another cause of black soot can be that your air filter is EXTREMELY dirty. Go ahead and check these things out and get back to me if they did not fix anything.

well you could try to get a vacuum gauge and see if your car reads what it supposed to and if you buy one it could tell you what it could be.

I had same problem with Scion. Took it to a Mobil One quick oil change place. Flushed injectors. It was under $100 and ran like new.

97 Buick lasabre hard to start stalls and won't start

In general, poor starting is due to incorrect mixture of fuel & air in the cylinder or lack of a spark.
Check the condition of the spark plugs or change them if they have not been replaced for some time. Check the air meter is functioning & the air filter is not excessively blocked. If engine fires but will not run up, this is likely to be the idle control system, check for air leaks in the air path and the idle control valve is working. Start with a slight press of the accel pedal & see if it help to raise the idle during crank & run up, if it does help, it points to idle control valve or air leak.

2003 Kia Optima 2.7 V-6 Engine turns over fine but now won't start until I push gas hard. Then, when I drive it, it hesitates sometimes.

sounds like the stepping motor which controls engine idle speed. does it idle ok ?. If it does check the usual things like the air filter, fuel filter, have you ever changed the spark plugs ? Get a full service done.

Rough idle and smells like gas when driven

When checking for Vacuum leaks, did you use a water spray bottle on seams and vacuum lines and EGR pod?(engine running)

Check for air leaks in exhaust before O2 sensors. O2 thinks its running lean from air leak in exhaust header and enrichens fuel charge.

Fuel injectors dirty, not closing tight. Switch injectors to other bank and see if Error Code moves to relocated injectors.

Bad spark plugs, check if you have fuel runners in your intake.

When I start my car there is gas smell and it has poor acceleration. The acceleration gets better as the car warms up... The car also idles rough.I recently had an oil change I also changed the spark plugs...

the gas smell makes me think EGRS (Exhaust Gas Recirculation System) check all your Vacuum hoses, start at your charcoal canister and work backwards.

A vacuum problem explains your conditions at least...

Fuel problem

first i would cover the basics. change the fuel filter, next change the spark plugs, careful this car takes special spark plugs. probably have to get from toyota. next clean the throttle body, pull air nozzle off and open the butterfly so you can spray throttle body cleaner in their and clean with toothbrush. also dont be alarmed after cleaning the throttle body and changing the fuel filter it will be hard starting, hold the gas pedal half way.
