Press trip odometer reset button, then turn key on while still pressing reset button. The information light will start to blink release button while it is bliking or it will not reset

The "service overdue" is a mileage based service reminder. It means you need to change the oil and perfirm whatever other service is recommended for your mileage. If you're up on all your service and the reminder is there it's very likely that whoever did the service didn't reset the reminder. The car computer keeps track of the number of kms/miles that was done since the last service when this light and counter was reset: according to the car computer mileage log, the car is now due for its next 'regular' service: take it to a garaged for its overdue service and they will reset the warning.
This is showing that your overdue for a sevice by 8,769. Depending on which service it will either say oil or inspection. With bmw's the order is of service is oil service .. inspection 1 ... oil service .... inspection 2. etc etc.
To reset the light the only tool you need is your finger. On some e46's there are 2 instrument cluster buttons (little rubber poles sticking out). If you press the left one with the ignition off you'll notice your mileage come up on the dash. This is the button you need to reset the service indicator.
With everything off,press and hold the same button and at the same time turn on the ignition to position 2 and wait a few seconds.
