Passat 2000 turn signal problem

Actually it is a 2000 Passat. Headlight comes on when engine switch is on and handbrake is off. Under these circumstances turn signals work OK (except when the left turn signal is activated, the instrument panel light starts flashing along with the turn signal. Also the right side rear light (not the turn signal) start flashing confusing the car behind you). For night driving you have to turn on another switch which lights up the instrument panel and the rear lights. When you do this the left side flashers - front and back - are permanently ON and thus do not respond to the turn signal command. I replaced the flasher relay but the problem is still there. Please help.

Nissan pickup I shut off the pickup the left low beam stayed on I bought a headlight/turn signal switch everything works now except the left low beam will not come on

Did you actually check the bulb? It may have burned out or the wiring to it may have lost connection. Some of these vehicles actually have a separate fuse for the left and the right headlights.

Volkswagon Passat 2005 - driving home from work and the handbrake warning light comes on followed by the annoying alarm. Turn slightly left it stops then the ASB warning light comes on followed by the ESP...

This sometimes is triggered by the MAF(Mass Air Flow Sensor), try cleaning it with the highest percent isoproply alcohal first, do not touch the sensor with anything use a big bag to soak it into, or just replace the sensor.

There are fuses for left and right low beams. Headlights on low beam, use a test light, see if voltage on fuse circuit? If no voltage that will lead us back to dimmer switch or problem with wiring circuit from dimmer switch.

The handbreak indicator light on the dachboard of my passat 2.3 V5 tiptronic car is on despite the fact that the handbreak lever is down. what is the cause and how do I solve it?

there is a small switch at the base of the handbrake lever, if u pull the rubber boot back u will see it, the switch turns off when the little spring plunger is pushed down in that switch, many times the switch bracket gets bent and then the handbrake lever fails to depress the plunger and the light stays on check it, if u depress the switch with your finger and the light doesn't go out u may have a grounded wire to the switch, in that case u will need to pull the boot off to trace the wire and find the damaged section..

I have e-mailed you 2 .pdf files, one is the complete headlamp diagram, and the other is the relay locations. Please advise if you need further assistance.

Headlights and turn signals stopped working

First off, do you have a knob on the dash for the headlights, or do you have a lever on the column that turns them on? If you have the lever on the column, and you can turn on the highbeams by pulling back on the turn signal stalk, and hitting the hazard button turns the flashers on, then chances are the stalk is bad (it's called the combination switch and it's a common failure on the B5 chassis cars (the Passat and Audi A4)).

Try that out - hit the hazard button and see if the hazards work. Pull back on the stalk and see if the high beams come on (they should - toggling like that uses a circuit that is separate from the usual headlight circuits).

Post back up with the results of these checks:

Headlight switch on column or dash?
Highbeams turn on when turn signal stalk is pulled back?
Hazard button activates hazard lights?

Let me know what you find out and I'll be able to tell you more definitely.

Headlight

This is normal operation. The XL-7 has daytime running lights and automatic headlight controls. You can keep headlights off when starting by applying the handbrake. If / when the daylight sensor on the dash determines it is evening and turns on the headlights, they will come on regardless of the handbrake position; and obviously, if you want to move the car, you have to release the handbrake (and headlights come one).
