I just had my timing belt replaced on 06 mitsubishi galant. Do i need to reset the computer. If so, how? Idle in drive seems a little low when stopped at a light. And is it normal for the car to sound a little different after replacing new belt?

You do not need to reset the computer. The idle speed is low because the computer was reset when the battery was disconnected when the T belt was replaced, the system will slowly adjust the idle back up to the correct speed based on your driving habits, it learns as you drive. It will take about 100 miles.

Then you should take it back and have them see what the problem is. You will need to have the computer scanned and a test run on the automatic idle speed control system.

thank you for your response. It's not low where the car will stall.

I have a 1997 Mitsubishi Galant with rough idle and no power when accelerating. Replaced spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, spark plug wires, MAF, both oxygen sensors, air filter and the engine still...

I am having the same issue on Mitsubishi Galant 02. Clattering on acceleration, herky jerky idle. Pulled a code multiple cylinder misfire. My mechanic's diagnosis is bad valve cover gasket causing oil to seap into the spark plugs and bad timing belt, which I have not replaced at 150k miles. I do however know my fuel injectors do need cleaning, he hasn't ruled that out either. Have you pulled any code on it? I have read on engine knock sensor going out on some of these also. Hope this helps some.

Need to know about changing the timing belt on my 2001 mitsubishi

This will take about 3-4 hours. If you look at the drive belts, they will all have to be taken off to get to the timing belt. The engine crankshaft has to be positioned for marks to line-up. The crankshaft will have to be prevented from turning so you can take off its drive pulley. Rotate until the alignment cylinder is near TDC, remove sparkplug, then packing a small rope on top of the piston prevents the engine from turning.. Once you change one timing belt, you will never buy another car with a timing belt again. You can get a manual on eBay.

2003 galant wont start

Your timing belt might have busted. Mine did that in November of 2007.... I had to replace 2 of the 4 cylinders, along with the timing belt and housing. Total cost was a little over $1700.00
