If it is the water pump there is a weep hole on it. That may be where it is leaking. Or it could be a frost plug.

SOURCE: my transfer case has started

The internal oil pump has worn through the case - poor design i was told by the transmission shop. Talk to them, they see it all the time. I just replaced mine last fall except i had to rebuild the entire transfer case after it locked up. The half case is only about $300, my rebuild was about $2000 after neglecting the problem.

SOURCE: 2005 Impala Leaking Coolant and no heat

Hi lfortunato,

Try the radiator cap, if that doesn't work check your interior heater controls.... as you've already pressure tested, it sounds unlikely to be the pump..... If it was defective it would have leaked with that pressure. The thermostat may also cause the problem, if it's stuck open....

Where could the leak be coming from when my 07 nissan altima car is running hot

The leak could be coming from a lot of different places. How hot is it actually running? Too hot could mean a faulty thermostat. Other causes could be something simple like a damaged water hose or worse, a blown head gasket.
First check the simple stuff. Drive the car for about 15 minutes to warm it up then park the car over a dry piece of ground. When the engine is COLD look under the car and look for any wet spots on the ground. If it is under the very front of the car it could be either the main radiator hoses or the radiator itself.
If it is under the engine it might be a water pump seal or a possible head gasket issue.
If it is nearer the rear of the engine it could be the hoses going to and from the heater core inside the car.
To check the radiator hoses gently run your hands along the underside of the hoses. Your feeling for wetness.
The two large hoses for the radiator are simple enough to do yourself. Drain the coolant, unscrew the clamps, wriggle the old hose off, fit the new hoses, refit the clamps then refill with fresh coolant.
For the other leaks you will probably need to go to a good mechanic as they will have the tools to get better access to the problem.

Reoccuring Coolant Leak - Now major leak

The Jaguar XK8 has a coolant hose on the rear of the engine that is prone to leaking. The leak is typically on the right side, right above the catalytic converter. There is a quick disconnect fitting that has an o-ring in it. This O-ring fails with age, and the coolant leaks from the connector.

Leaking coolant

Is the coolant clean that leaks out? Have you put a newspaper under the car to try and isolate the leaks location by the drip stains? Likely spots are the engine water pump and hose connection points at have worked loose. If the leak seems to come from the rear of the engine it may be a leaking heater core, in that case you should have a kind of sweet smell (the smell of vaporized coolant) in the cabin when the heater is on.

1998 T/C rear goes down while car is parked. There is an odor similar to hydraulic fluid. When car starts, compressor runs and rear levels; stays level until motor turned off.

More than likely your rear shock(s) have leaks that cause the compressor to reinflate. A possible explanation for the inflation to only occur while the engine is on is so the battery won't be drained during down time. Probably a protective feature. As for the hydraulic smell, check for signs of leakage under the hood and under the car. Also check your engine coolant for possible leaks.

Leaking anti fz near p/s rear wheel

There's only 2 likely possibilities to this problem. First, and most likely, would be that you have a leaking water pump, hose or thermostat that is leaking down to the frame rail and running to the rear of the vehicle where you're finding it. Secondly, less likely and more costly, would be that you have a head leak allowing antifreeze into the exhaust system where it's escaping where you're finding it. This is not likely especially if the check engine light isn't on. But in either case you need to make sure to keep an eye on the coolant level as these engines are very unforgiving in the event of overheating!

Rottenweiler630@My 84 s-10 blazer has developed a heater core leak. Where can I get the procedure for R & R of the core?

Please don't forget to rate! Thanks!

Removal & Installation

The heater core is removable from under the right side of the instrument panel.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Position a drain pan under the radiator, open the drain **** and drain the cooling system to a level below the heater core.

Plug the heater core tubes to avoid spilling coolant in the passenger compartment during removal.

  1. Disconnect the heater-to-engine coolant hoses from the core tubes on the firewall, in the engine compartment.

If necessary, loosen and remove the under dash cabin light retaining bolt

c17hydro_118.gif

With the bolt removed, the light and housing may be repositioned out of the way

On some early model vehicles, the cabin light mounted under the dash may interfere with cover removal. If necessary, loosen the retaining bolt and reposition the light housing with the wiring attached.

  1. From the passenger compartment (under the dash) remove the heater core rear case cover-to-cowl screws, then remove the cover from the vehicle.

Be sure that all are removed before attempting to remove the cover. If necessary, unbolt and reposition all/part of the dashboard for better access.

  1. Remove the straps or brackets from each end of the heater core.
  2. Carefully remove the heater core from the cowl and case.

To install:

  1. Insert the heater core into the case, taking care not to damage the tubes as they are inserted through the cowl.
  2. Install the straps or brackets to the ends of the heater core and secure using the retaining screws.
  3. Install the heater core rear case cover and secure using the retaining screws.
  4. If moved for access, reposition and secure the dash mounted cabin light and housing.
  5. Connect the heater-to-engine coolant hoses to the core tubes.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable, then properly refill the engine cooling system.
  7. Run the engine at normal operating temperatures and check for leaks.
