I pulled the hood release this morning and got the hood open but now I have no tension on the cable and I can not get the hood to close. What might be the problem here?
The lever on the latch assembly (the one that gets pulled by the cable) is stuck. Happens all the time.....All you have to do is lube the hood latch assembly with some WD-40 or Sea Foam or a similar lubricant. Sometimes you can see the lever and move it back and forth a few times by reaching in with a screwdriver. Then close and open the hood a few times just to make sure everything is loosened up.

Well...I think your brief sentence says there is too much tension? If so check the following:

Try smacking down on the hood with a open hand. You may want to have someone inside to pull the lever while you hit on the hood.If you do get it open spray everthing down with a good lubicant.Well good luck and hope this helped.

SOURCE: hood release wont engage
The hood bumpers are worn or misaligned. After pul;ling the vever, push at one end of the hoods front section as if your trying to rattle it. Most the time they do release. If it doesn't try the oposite side this way. Upon opening it if possible work the latch manually to see if it does work. If it does use lubraplate lithiuim grease on all movable parts

this is a hard one it depends on where it broke, can you cut the housing to get to cable core and pull with pleirs, if it snapped at latch then you will need to remove the grill or go from the bottom and try to hit the release the same wat the cable did, sometime if you grab the cable near the latch and pull hard it will open, good luck.
