Have an Oldsmobile 1997 Achieva security light stays on and won't everyhing but still won't start , would like to know would the Pro VATS Full Bypass work on it.

put key in ignition and turn all the way like your'e going to start it but don't start it. the security light is going to be flashing. leave it for ten minutes like that until the security light turns solid(not blinking). Turn the key to off and then start it. The tumblers in the ignition lock cylinder are no good any more and the ignition switch needs to be replaced and reprogrammed.

If the security light is on, then it can only be one thing. The security system is failing and immobilizing your car. Go to this link and read up on the problem. The security light is a dead give away that the security is messed up. If you have no little black chip in the shaft of your key, then this means you must have a passlock that runs on the transponder. No. GM's vats system has a resistor in the ignition key. The Vats has a control module that needs to see the value of that resistor to start the car. If it doesn't see the resistance the car will crank but will not start up. Try your back up key. If that doesn't work the the Vats system needs to be replace. GM has only 15 different value resistors to A million different possible ignition key cylinder combonations.

do you have a "SECURITY" light blinking on the dash?

might be in theft mode.. is security light flashing on instrument cluster....alot of time the chip on the key gets worn down....setting theft mode to invalid

The security system (VATS/PassKey) is having problems, it's typical on those cars. You can find a great write-up here: http://newrockies.ca , it was the only thing that saved my Park Avenue.

In your BCM (Body Control Module) there is integrated a TDM (Theft Deterrent Module) that is probably faulty. I saved my car in the exact same situation with this: http://newrockies.com/vatsbypass . It was the only way. The author says it works with PassKey and VATS, but It works perfectly with Passlock too as the only difference between those 2 systems is that in PassKey the resistor is in the key, while in Passlock, the same resistor is in the lock ...that's where the names come from... :)
