Valve seals allowing oil into cylinders
oil ring on piston broken
worn valve guide in head
blue smoke means ur burning oil
black smoke burning to much fuel
white smoke burning coolant
the landrover part makes my wallet hide
leaving it will only foul up your plugs,crud up inside the engine
and eventualy kill it. no quick cheap fix there sorry

The fuel filter is located below the electrics box, half way between the battery and the bulkhead on the passenger side, under the bonnet. It is very difficult to see how it all fits, but it has a central screw which holds the plastic filter housing/mounting in place. Find this screw (which is a small self tapper) and be prepared to loose it, or use a magnetic screw driver. Then lift the plastic housing up and away, (towards the engine) be ready with loads of rags to catch the diesel fuel when you disconnect the pipes. There is an earth wire attached to the housing also. (anti interference, I think) It is quite a fiddle getting it back again, as it has two locating lugs on the back of the plastic housing/mounting.

there is a module mounted on the fan shroud that is a common problem. but as always, check fuses, connectors and grounds!

Replace the battery in the key unit. There is a slot on the bottom edge for a coin or screwdriver to twist it open. Open, replace battery and snap shut.
