I washed off the motor and I cranked up the car and moved it to another part of the yard and let it sit for a while. I was working on other things and when I went to start it again it wouldnt. I assumed the distributor had got water in it .I took it off and the rotor button was burned and I replaced both the distributor and button, but still wont crank. I have fire to the number 1 plug . What do I need to check?

Just forget about that plug! It will not unplug without plenty help! Check the connection at the starter solenoid. Check for power, cleanup the terminal, fire your baby up! Frankster016

Hello, looking at the response from my colleagues I feel possibly they and you are looking in the wrong area.
You say it won't completely crank over? I hope you mean turn over manually by rotating the crankshaft pulley with a knuckle bar and not trying to turn over on the key?
Whenever I do a cambelt or head/gasket change to make certain I've got the cam timing correct I rotate the engine through 360 degrees to make sure! if it isn't correct the pistons will hit the valves and not Crank over completely as you put it.
So I would see if the timing mark on the Crank pulley, cam and if diesel pump align correctly.
Good luck! I hope this sorts your problem? if so please remember press that Blue Fixya button to appraise my FREE effort's.

SOURCE: Will not Start
Strap VOM across battery and measure VDC. Keep Eye on VDC as someone attempts to start car. If Volts drop to near 0, battery is toastado.
Otherwise, check ignition relay and starter solenoid. Check any large fuses in the underhood fuse compartment.
SOURCE: crankshaft position sensor location
Hello. One way to check if it is working is when you try to start the car does the needle move on you tac? If not then your crank sensor is more then likely the problem. It is located on the backside of the engine under the intake manifold. If is in about the center of the block. There will be a 10mm bolt holding the sensor in. If you decide to change it yourself (not to terrible of a job) unplug the sensor, remove the bolt and spin it back and forth slightly while pulling it out. It may be stoburn and you might have to work at it for a little bit (not a done of room) but it will come. When it's out the sensor will be shaped kind of like an L. I have changed a few of these over time and they can be a little stoburn. To install just reverse the process.
