2002 Sonato blower fan resister

The 3rd speed is the only speed I had when I got the car. It stopped working. I have now changed my fan blower resistor and the blower fan again only works on the 3rd speed. The resister I took out was blown. Not sure how the blower fuses are marked in the fuseblock by the battery. Not sure what to check next, relay if it has one, maybe selector switch is bad. This is a standard and not a clmiate controlled unit.

A clogged cabin air filter can cause repeat resistor failures. A bad blower fan can also cause repeat resistor failure.

SOURCE: blower fan

Sounds like the problem is more with the blower motor assembly itself. The blower motor have micro-proccers built itnto them which comunicate with the control heads and do the actual regulating of the fan motor. Dealers have computers with diagnostic software which allows them to monitor what is happening in the eletronic controls of the vehicle. Electronic diagnostics without the diagnostic software makes it very diffecult to pinpoint the actual item causing the problem.

Hi Jim, If the vehicle is fitted with climate control it will have electronic management. However it can be wired by someone knowing electrical circuitry to by pass the control. It will save you some cash but will need manual control. Make sure whoever does the job knows what he or she is doing. Have a happy new year. Regards John

Heater blower stopped working?

Hello,
You may want to try your fan on all speeds. If it will work on high, you have a bad resistor for the fan motor. ( high speed doesn't go through the resistor ).
If it doesn't work on any speed, I would check the following;
1. Make sure the fuse isn't blown for the fan blower motor.
2. Check, or have checked the wires between the fan control switch and the fan blower motor.
3. Have the fan control switch checked.
4. Have the fan blower motor checked.

I hope this helps you.

My air conditioner fan speeds have all stopped working except for 5. Any ideas what is causing this? The vehicle is a 2002 GMC Envoy.

Yes,it is the blower resister,it controls all the speeds to the blower motor,it is located near the blower motor,and it might have a wire harness that is burned up too,replace it,and the wire harness,and the blower motor,the blower motor is what causes the resister to fail,it draws too many amps,even though it might sound good,and run fine,it is requiring to many amps to run it.If this was at all helpful,please rate,thank you.

Blower fan does not work

to stop the guessing ,replace blower motor and blower resister/if motor is bad it can make the resister go out,u may have a blower relay also thats bad replace if the control speed switch has not got a burned spot on the back where the wires plug up then this should repair ur car/it sounds like a lot to replace and maybe u think unnessasary but these componts work all together and affect one another
