The Data link connector is located on the side of the fuse block which sits above your left foot as you are sitting in the car, the fuse block has a black plastic cover, and the connector on the side and has a soft rubber boot.

Hello! The 1991-1993 self diagnosis check connector is located in the left side of the driver's foot well on the side of the fuse box...Using a jumper wire clip on pin #1 the top left pin...clip the other end to pin #12 the bottom right pin...Turn the ignition key to on but do not start...The Check Engine light will blink in a series of short and long blinks..record that pattern and that will give you a code. Send the code to me and I'll shoot the trouble....Guru...saailer

Hello! one long light is indicating a defective ECM...Check the connectors to the ECM...Take a trip to radio shack and purchase a product called DeOxit....cost is $15...Two small spray cans ...Use the cleaner on both female and male pins of the ECM...It's worth a shot...If no help... Replace the ECM...Guru...saailer

Well it finally started but the battery is not charging and I have changed the battery and the alternator

  • Anonymous Jan 29, 2012

this all started when i changed the alternator in the first place

Hello! So now it runs, excellent! Did you replace the ECM or clean the connectors? If you have that spray contact cleaner, do the same to the alternator plug...Now... When you say the alternator isn't working are you concluding that because the charge light is on or a meter reading with a volt meter?...There is an easy method to determine if the alternator is defective or it has lost power...Set your voltmeter (I hope you have one; if not any home improvement store sells the digital type under $20) to read 12 volts...Read across the battery terminals with engine off...record reading...Start the engine...Reading should be 1.8 to 2 volts higher...ie...12=key off and 13.8=engine running...Next, With engine at idle, push a safety pin into the rear of the in-place alternator connector...On the following wire colors: White/Red (two wires)...Red...And Blue...Moving the safety pin to the rear of the connector or wire one at a time...To the safety pin, clip the + probe of meter, set to read 12 volts...Place the - probe on the negative battery post...Record reading on each wire at idle and send results...Next, with engine off, set meter to X10 ohm scale...One probe on the center of negative battery post and the other to the outside case of the alternator (ground)...Must read zero ohms...Send results...

CAUSES...#1...You replaced the alternator with battery still connected...#2... it's a defective alternator off the shelve...#3...Fuses are blown...#4...Ground is open or resistive...I AM HERE.............Saailer

Addendum...There is a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB-92-54-997) that needs to be checked...Face the front of the engine...On the left front of the engine compartment is the Main Relay Junction Box...There is a connector to the left of this box, behind the headlight next to the box...It is connector A-67...Pin #12 on this connector has a corrosion problem...Pull the connector and clean with DeOxit...paying attention to pin #12....Guru...saailer

SOURCE: i have to change my

Wish I had like an owners manual that just give a layout and what the fuse is for. I don't but found some stuff I did have that may help. I hope it does for your sake. It looks like there's a couple of fuse boxes and relay boxes. Th first picture (below) is a picture of a relay box located in the engine compartment. You should be able to tell if it's the right box by the layout. It looks like in the number 5 position there is a 10 amp fuse but that seems to cover high beams (see description in next picture below). Then there is a multi purpose fuse box and going to gues that's inside the vehicle but when you find it you will be able to tell it's the right one by the layout (see next picture). In the number 10 position there seems to be a fuse that covers the headlights but only if you DON'T have anti-theft. Description of the fuse layout is in the next picture. Then there is the headlamp relay itself. It's located in the relay box somewhere in the engine compartment but again you will be able to tell it's the right one by the layout (see the next picture) It looks like the headlamp relay is in the A-01X position. Wish I could be of more help or at least not having to be so detailed but all I have is the factory service manual. If you do need anymore information please don't hesitate to email me at [email protected] with detailed questions so I can send the correct information. I hope this helps and good luck. here's your pictures.

How to test the obd codes

What is year--make--model? Generally 94 model year and older is obd1. 96 and newer is obd2, generally. 95 can be a cross-over year and could have a hybrid diagnostic connector.

Usually with obd2, you need an obd2 code reader. OBD1 you should be able to access some codes, yourself, w/o a code reader. Different makes can have different procedures for accessing codes/obd1.

I have a 95 buick le saber 3.8 ltr. It back fires when running. But when check engine light is on it wont back fire. It does sound louder with check engine light on. Changed coils. I need help trying to...

You need to scan the computer for trouble codes. If the light was on, there must be codes set. On a '95 Buick, it would be OBD-1, On Board Diagnostics-first generation ('96 and later is all OBD-2).
The diagnostic connectors are different for OBD1 and OBD2, but in '94 and '95, GM was on some models using a "hybrid" diagnostic link connector. You will just have to find the right diagnostic connector to get your codes. The guys at autozone or a national parts store who do engine scans for free may help you figure it out. If it is a straight forward OBD 1 connector, a cheap code reader could scan for trouble codes. For the OBD1, you can also use a jumper wire between terminals
A & B of the diagnostic link connector. Turn key to on, and two digit codes will begin to flash on the check engine light. Code 12, for instance, would be a flash, pause, two short flashes, and longer pause before the next code appears. Code 12 by the way, just means that the computer is in diagnostic mode-after that any set codes will appear or be flashed. Code 55 may also be flashed-this code means the end of codes that are set.

Can you please tell me were is the Diagnostic Link Connector located in a 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

You have what is called an OBD 1 system on board diangostic 1every thing before 1996 had this system . So an OBD 11 code reader will not link to an OBD1 or even connect to it . The OBD1 systems connectors are usealy somewhere near the battery they look like odd shaped connectors that don't hook to any thing there may be one or two of them . The problem with OBD 1 was you need a differant code reader for every major brand of vehicle GM dosn't work with ford dodge may work with with AMC jeep im not sure so your going to have to do a little home work to find one of these readers because you can't find them in parts stores anymore good luck

Where is the obd plug and what kind of reader do i need for reading the codes

The code readers have changed along with the standards relating to the depth of info provided by the ECUs; you will need to use your model year to shop one and do shop it; the prices of these things vary greatly and the simplest will do what the typical owner needs done; read codes. You'll find numerous vendors on line and they range (overall) from ~$20 to $250+ US.

I've not seen any connectors that were not located on the driver's half of the car; they are a flattened 'D' configuration, have always been mounted horizontally and have two rows of pins. Some are concealed under a slip-off plastic cap.
