Its a faulty turn signal switch.Try this, push down and hold brake pedal while pushing on the hazard switch and if the brake lights come on then replace the signal switch.

SOURCE: where is the reverse switch for 1995 oldsmobile cutless supreme

The back up lights are controlled by the neutral safety switch. That is usuall mounted to the top of the transmission. It also has the shift cable attached above it so that will have to come off. Also when you put the new switch in it will need to be adjusted to insure tha car starts in park and nuetral.

SOURCE: no brake lights when i push the pedal

Its the signal light switch on the lever.
THe signal switch has all connections relating to the brake lights!
solution play around with the lever and see or get someone to see the brake lights work with the brake pedal down.
My car does the same thing! when i move the lever towards activaiting the high beams the brake lights work.
just gently push on the lever to see the lights go on.
you have to replace the switch and requires removing the steering wheel without setting off the airbag.

Brake lights do not light up when peddle is pressed. bulbs have been changed and, fuses are good

If the high mount light works, and you know the bulbs are good, the problem is probably in the turn signal switch.

Brake Lights all of a sudden not working on my 1995 Tahoe. Checked fuses and lights. Neither burnt out.

The turn signal switch and the hazard switch are likly places to look. To checjk the fuses is'nt to take them out and look at them but to test to see if power will go though them, I use a test light ( a tool that looks like an ice pick with a wire coming out of the handle and the handle is clear with a light bulb inside). with the clip connected to a good ground as you touch the back sides of the fuses the light will light if it only lights on one side, the fuse is blown ( does'nt matter what it looks like ) a bad fuse can look good. the turn signal switch is involved as is the Hazard switch. If you pusth the hazard switch and the lights light good then you know that the lights and the sockets are good. You also know that the wires are good . With the key on the turn signals should work front and back ( thier different cicruits) If only working in the front the turn signal switch is bad provided the hazards worked all the way around. Does the high mount stop light work? It works off of it's own circuit on the brake light switch and if no lights work your back to the fuses only after you checked to see if the high mount bulbs are good. Your car is plenty old enough to have them be burnt out. If the high mount doesn't work with the bulbs known to be good and then you check with the test light to see if the power isd getting to the brake light switch. One wire is hot with the key off and another comes hot with the key on ( the cruze control switch in the brake light).

97 Olds Bravada My brake & hazard lights don't

There are TSB's for this issue. I chased this issue for months on mine. Go find the TSB's, there's troubleshooting pointing out the faulty part. It could be, the brake light switch, the hazzard light switch itself, the multi-function switch. I had replaced all of these and still had the problem. Wiring that goes from the brake switch to up near the fender was shorting against the fender. I replaced the pigtail, problem fixed. Best bet to help you, is find the TSB's for this problem.

Center high-mounted stoplight is not working? Where is the relay?

If the two rear brake light are working on each side, then fuse and relay are good, check the bulb.

I have a 1990 Lexus 250 ES. Brake lights inop.

check the brake pedal switch by connecting a test light to it and ground.

When the pedal depresses you might hear a click or see the button depress.

The test light should light or not light changing as you press and release the pedal.

Another way to do this is to change the brake pedal switch and see if it works.

I hope this helps.

My brake lights don't work, I changed the bulbs and they still don't work. What could be the problem. I don't have an owners manual and don't know if it could be the fuse and which one it is.

ASE Mechanic here:
Check all the fuses. pull out one by one. if one is bad it needs replacing anyway, right! Good if that doesn't work, check power at the brake switch mounted on the brake pedel, you can up plug and jump across the terminals and make brake lights work. Keep me posted!!!!!!!!!
