My door alert that my lights have been left on doesnt ding any more

My battery has been drained twice now because I forgot to turn off my headlights when I get to work in the daylight. When lights were left on and the car was shut off, and I opened the door an alert would ding to remind me about the lights-that doesn't happen any more. How to fix this?

You will have to check your fuses cause there will be a fuse for it
If that's ok make sure the unit on the inside of the door works fine
It's the one with the little pin sticking out
Also if the roof light comes on like normal when opening the door then that unit is fine and don't need to get checked then u should check only the fuse
If fuse is fine then it might be a connection problem or the unit that gives the sound tone

SOURCE: Chime does not work when opening the door after the car is shut off and also when the running lights are left on after the car is shut off. Chime does work however for a brief second when turning on

There is a switch in the latch of your door which is broken. They used to use easily replaceable plunger switches now they have incorporated the switch into the door lock latch mechanism making it more expensive than necessary. I had same problem. You probably also set off your alarm quite frequently as well. If you shut off your car and try to start it after 30 seconds the alarm sounds, it did in my case. Luckily, I had purchased one of those extended warranties as my car was used. I still had to pay $100 but I think the switch is just over $120 this for me covered labor as well.

SOURCE: Radio does not work. Cannot set clock. Door open

There is an anti-theft system tied into your radio. When the battery goes dead, you have to reset your radio with a code. there is a code in your manual that has to be typed in. If you don't have the manual, go to the dealer. They will find the code, for free. Then, look in the manual. You have to type in the code, then hit a button or two, then the radio will come right back on. then you can reset the clock too.

How to reset pcm on a 1999 lincoln navigator

The first is to use a scan tool to do the reset (which is unavailable to most of us). The second involves disconnecting the negative battery cable. The third involves disconnecting the negative battery cable and turning on the headlights. I think this third derivation presumes some residual charge in the system; hence turning the lights on drains the charge.

I would like to add one of my own methods for a sure fire reset of the PCM. It is a derivation of number 3 (above) but takes a while longer and does not require you to disconnect the negative battery cable.

That's right ladies and gentlemen, I came out this morning and opened the door to the truck, no ding-ding-ding from me leaving the keys in the ignition and gosh it's awfully dark in the cab. I look down and see I left the lights on last night. Stone cold dead. Have to crawl over the third row seat to get to my emergency bag, string the cables across the garage to the Explorer, and jump the poor beast. Two or three cranks and she starts right up. And then the beautiful sign of a positive PCM reset: needles peg and then return to normal.

2001 s10 will jump start. After it sits, I try to start it, it won't start, but the ignition keeps dinging after I turn it off and take the key out. I can jump start it and the dinging stops.

its sounds like a bad ignition switch-try to jiggle it and see if its stop after you have turned key off- also those dinging sounds are to warn you that you have left something on -usually headlights or maybe even your dome lights which would account for your battery dying

Ignition alarm

I would say the switch is what you talking about
replacing,not the key cylinder

Alert/Alarm for key/headlights no longer sounds

The owners manual should help shed some light on this problem. The car may be somewhat programable for the alerts and warning systems. You may also need to lubricate the door button that senses the door is open and closed. Good luck.

"1999 Buick Century" unknown dinging draining

It's probably your ignition not being exactly disconnected when you remove the key.Until you get a new ignition (keyswitch),just jiggle the switch with your fingers after you remove the ke7y and see if the dinging stops. my Aerostar has that problem right now. don-ohio

My 1994 cadillac deville is draining the battery and the headlight warning bell keeps dinging while im driving and the doors are all closed

Have your alternator checked at an auto parts store. It sounds like it isn't keeping up with the drain on yuor battery.

When I leave the lights on in my 2000 Pontiac Sunfire, the car does not alert me with the traditional "ding ding ding" bell. It doesn't alert me at all. This has lead to the lights being left on...

I have a 98 sunfire and there is a relay on the right side of the car up and behind the glove box and there is some relays in there that controll the door and lite chimes.you may have a relay that is bad.it is kind of hard to reach.
