I need to change my turn signal light bulb, but cannot remove the plastic assembly. How do I remove the rear driver's side tail light assembly?
I had the HARDEST time with the lights...I never realized changing a bulb would be so difficult. Once you unscrew what you need to, go into the trunk and pull the lining away from the back part of the light. There are the white prongs that you will need to tap with a hammer until they pop out and then the light assembly will come out. Be careful though, I got a little too impatient and broke mine. I used a binding agent to hold it back in place though...GOOD LUCK!
Remove the two screws.
Take a flat head screwdriver and GENTLY pry along the opening of the assembly and te assembly comes out.
Turn the white electrical fitting counterclock wise to remove from the lens assembly.
Push and twist the bulb counter clockwise to remove.
Replacing tail/brake/turn signal/backup lamp bulbs (page 59-60 of owners manual)
Sedan
The tail lamp, brake lamp, turn
signal lamp and backup lamp bulbs
are located in the same portion of
the tail lamp assembly. Follow the
same steps to replace either bulb.
1. Make sure headlamp switch is in
OFF position and open trunk and
remove two plastic mushroom nuts,
three push pins and the plastic
cover from inside the trunk to
access the lamp assembly.
2. Carefully pull the carpet away to
expose the lamp assembly hardware.
3. Remove four nut and washer
assemblies and the lamp assembly
from the vehicle.
4. Remove the bulb socket by
rotating it counterclockwise, then
pulling it out of the lamp assembly.
5. Pull the bulb from the socket and
push in the new bulb.
6. Install the bulb socket into the lamp assembly by rotating it clockwise.
7. Install the lamp assembly on the vehicle with four nut and washer
assemblies ensuring the washers on the nuts are flush with the body to
prevent water from entering the trunk.
8. Carefully push the carpet back in to place and install the plastic cover
inside the trunk with three push pins and two plastic mushroom nuts.
The
process for replacing tail light bulbs is the same in all models. If
you have a burnt-out tail light bulb, you may need to replace the
brake light, the reverse light or the turn signal. The procedure to
replace each of the bulbs is the same.
Instructions
1.
Open the Hummer's rear swing gate. This will expose the edge of the
vehicle's tail light assembly. You'll see two small Phillips head
screws that hold the tail light assembly in place. Put on your
gloves.
2.
Remove the two screws from the tail light assembly. Pull the tail
light out and inspect the back for two bulbs. The top bulb is the
brake light and turn signal. The bottom bulb is the reverse bulb.
Determine which bulb you need to replace.
4Push
the replacement bulb into its socket firmly. Insert the socket back
into the tail light. Turn it clockwise to secure it in place.
5Place
the tail light into its cradle. Hold it with one hand and replace
the Phillips head screws with the other.

We got 2 screws off on the outside of the trunk. Where are the bolts in the trunk? Under the carpet material? Thanks.
We have a hatchback Aveo and was told by the dealer that the plastic assembly just lifts off once the two bolts are removed. I am afraid it will crack. We have pulled and pulled.
I have the same problem. I see one white tab but I don't know how I could get a hammer in there...
I see one white prong but I don't know how I can get the correct angle with a hammer because I don't have the clearance...
tail light assembly is in the trunk... for safety Chevrolet and many others have put the assembly in the trunk... just look in the trunk for plastic bolts holding on the covers. once those are removed it should show nuts holding on the outside light covers... and from there you should be able to change the bulbs,
