My 2006 toyota tacoma trd automatic was running in park in 4H. When we went to put it into drive, it was stuck in park so we turned it off hoping that would reset it. When we went to turn it back on it was dead and still stuck in park. The headlights come on and the brake lights work. We checked the fuses and they appear to be good but its hard to tell. All of the dash lights light up when I turn the key. Also, about two days ago I noticed the exterior temperature/compass display stopped working, doesnt even light up now. Not sure if that is connected to this non starting issue. Any ideas?
Could be a bad brake switch, but not sure since you say brake lights are working. Others reported a blown tail light fuse bit again, since you say your lights work then it may not be the case. I would start by inspecting every fuse. Shouldn't take too long. Then check the brake pedal arm to see the switch. Maybe there is more than one? Or, if the gear selector lock rus off the same 12v as your brake lights, maybe there is a broken wire or the solenoid that locks it is bad.

Have you verified both high beams are in working order? DRL's are very funny about not working if one of the lights is burned out. Rememeber that DRL's are only high beams using 20% of the power so just because your normal lights work, it does not mean the high beams are working correctly.

Check the taillamp fuse on the truck. If it is blown, you either have a short in the wiring of the camper, or the 7 pin inverter box on the camper.

I am not sure if that module has a back light but if it does you can replace it yourself if you know how.
The best way otherwise is to replace that module.
Good Luck

I have the same problem on my 2005 Tacoma dbl cab pickup when it just passed 100K miles. Thanks for the tips in this website. I took out the temp/compass unit very carefully. And went to Radio Shack to buy a soldering kit ($7.99-the cheapest price I can find). It only take 10 min. to resolder C510 and put every thing back again. It works perfectly. I think Toyota need to improve this product in the future.
