Removal of serpentine belt on 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I was trying to replace serpentine belt on 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee & got as far as loosening slide bolts on back of power steering unit & loosening tensioning bolt; however no slack developed in original belt and I need to know if there is a safe leverage technique to get the slack I need without damaging the power steering unit- any ideas would be appreciated.

After a day of headscratching and poring over the details of belt changing in the Haynes Jeep manual, I found a small detail that ultimately was lacking in the discussions to date but made a big difference in the success of removing/replacing the belt. A close exam of the chapter dealing with removal of the power steering unit revealed the presence of a lock nut that is beneath the pulley assembly that has to be loosened as well to allow the power steering unit to slide to permit belt removal. (Total 4 bolts involved- 2 posterior to power steering unit, 1 adjustment bolt and 1 lock bolt). Removal & replacement was very quick once this was discovered-

SOURCE: i am unable to loosen the tension pulley on a 93

I'm going to assume you have either a four cyl or an inline 6cyl...The tension is provided at the power steering pump. Loosen the fasteners and look underneath. There is a "jack bolt" that is just under the pump that faces the left fender. Screwing it in or out moves the pump and adjusts belt tension.

Go the other direction. It takes a breaker bar to move the tension arm.

I need to replace my serpentine belt. Which

For a 94 Jeep grand cherokee, the tension is controlled through a long bolt on the power steering bracket. The bolt is about 6 inches long, located underneath the power steering on the driver side. Lossen the lockbolt holding it in place, as well as the Power steering attach bolts, and turn the long bolt to tighten/loosen. I believe these are all 13 mm bolts.

How to install a alternator on 1997 jeep grand cherokee v 8

It is fairly easy the alternator sits on top of the engine. Remove the serpentine belt their is a spring loaded belt tensoiner that rotates and belt will come right off. Remove the wires from the back of the alternator and remove the bolts holding it in place. The install is reverese of removal. IF you need more help go to you local auto parts store and pick up the Haynes manual it has a more in depth step by step guide.
