Question about Cars & Trucks
MY SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT IS ON. I TOOK THE PICKUP TO AUTO ZONE THEY SAID IT WAS CODE P440. SINCE THE I GOT ANOTHER LOCKING GAS CAP AND I NEED TO SET THE COMPUTER CODE. HOW DO I GO ABOUT SETTING THE COMPUTER CODE, FROM PAUL MITCHELL
I believe you mean resetting the Code. You can go to Autozone, Advance, or Oreilys and then can reset this for you, free. Sometimes you can just disconnect the NEG post of your battery and the computer will clear. But most people do not like resetting their clock or radio when you do this.

SOURCE: 2002 chevy avalanche. service
It's an 02 sensor/converter issue. When both 02 sensors read exactly the same (there's one front and after of converter) means the converter is no longer operating. Replace the converter is the fix.

Check dist. cap and rotor and replace. Just fixed one last week. Rotor was causing a misfire under load and coil contact to rotor was worn out down too the cap. Graphite dust from the center contact in cap was all over the rotor causing a misfire. $25.00 in parts or less. While you are there replace wires and plugs. Autolite ap25 plugs 2.99 each

SOURCE: can gas be siphoned from
They are right, I suppose if someone wanted to badly enough they could probably do it but it would be easier to put a hole in the tank and drain it out. I wouldn't worry about the cap.

If I had a code? and engine code (8th VIN number) Stay out of ottozone, they just sell parts that they think you need. gas caps are rarely bad.

When the service engine soon light a yellow light (Also called the check engine light or engine management light) is turned on this is to alert you to the fact that Powertrain Control Module (computer) has detected a failure somewhere in the systems it controls you may not feel any difference in the way the engine runs, this can be the transmission or the engine or emission system, there are fault codes set in the modules memory for these faults. What needs to happen now is to have the powertrain control module scanned with a special tool called an OBD2 electronic engine control scanner or a OBD2 code reader. Once the code(s) are read then you must perform the diagnostics for each code and make the appropriate repairs based on the findings of the diagnosis that was performed, this is called doing "Pinpoint" testing.
