I have a 2000 dodge intrepid. A few months ago the oil light started coming on only when at stop lights. Once you start going, it goes off, or if you rev up the engine it goes off. Now, it is running rough when stopped and again at around 45-50mph. If left overnight, it won't act up for about 10 miles, once the engine is warmed up.At highway speeds it is fine though. I have changed all the spark plugs and made sure there are the correct amount of all fluids and it still does it.

Your motor is getting Tired or your Oil Pump is going bad.

Dodge has a problem with their motors and their Oil Passages get GUNKED really bad. This is what you should do,...

A. Get 1.5 Quarts of Diesel Fuel and drive to where you have your Oil changed

B. Add the Diesel Fuel to the Oil and let it IDLE (don't Drive the car under operating conditions). Let it Idle for 15-20 minutes and then have your Oil Changed

C. Have them use 20W-50 Oil, this is going to raise your oil Pressure and the light will not come on anymore.

Reason... Metal parts are wearing and that is oil gets into the system to lube the bearings. Pump Screen may be clogged and this will dissolve the Carbon Build up.

Hi there. Make sure that the oil level is sufficient in the engine. A lot of newer vehicles now a days have sensors that monitor various fluid levels and if the fluids get too low the engine will not start.

It might be time to move to 10W30 oil in your 11 year old vehicle. Do you change your own oil? Try 3 qts 5W30 and 2 qts 10W30 of what you normally use.

to save monies I would tell my daughter to go to an auto parts store and let them scan the code, then once the problem is found someone there may be able to put the part on for her or fix whatever problem there may be. Hope this helped Tim

better check ground from body to engine, use booster cables from batt to engine, if it starts then that is your problem

I have the same problem with my 02 intrepid es. It started happening a couple months ago while Im driving. They just flash a couple times every once in a while. Its annoying and I dont know whats causing it. Just wanted to let you know you arent alone lol.

first of all, check your code to see what the car computer shows. To do that , insert the key in the ignition and switch it on three time within 2 seconds and the third time live the key in the on position. All the instrument panel lights will lite and the oddometer will display the fault code that may br the cause for your car not starting. goood luck.

First check your oil levels and condition but i could be that your oil pick up screen could be getting plugged with sludge and debris when the oil thins out
