2006 PT Cruiser(non turbo) P0016 code won't reset.

Timing belt broke and has been replace. triple check the timing marks on camshafts and crank. everything lined up perfectly. Replaced crankshaft sensor and camshaft sensor and still get P0016 code. Cleared code several times with Actron ODBII scan tool. Drove the car in stop and go traffic, then 10 miles on highway for multiple days. Car runs fine when cold, then after 10 minutes wont go above 3200 RPMs. Does anyone have any ideas what it can be?

SOURCE: 2002 pt cruiser Camshaft Sensor

change the crankshaft positon sensor in the rear of the engine above the oilfilter. Also check the wiring to this sensor, they have a problem shorting out. You have to change the camshaft and crankshaft sensors at the same time. Make sure you give your car a major tune up. Did you check yor starter?.........runjoe

There should be plated links on those chains too. There is an index dot in both cams on each head that set at the twelve o'clock position.

2008 pt cruiser - check engine light came on, within minutes it started to "power down" and and died. Won't start. What could cause this? BTW have changed spark plugs, camshaft sensore, cranks

My PT did that when my timing belt broke. It cost $500.00 to replace it. If it is broken, be ready to have some motor work done. I had to have to values replaced at a cost of $900.00. If your timing belt is not broken then check the alternator and battery. I was riding down the road and my PT shut all the way down and would not start. I had to leave it beside the road. It was my alternator. It gave me no warning.

Timinig mark for 2003 pt cruiser non turbo 2.4

Hi, if it's ignition timing your looking at, it'not adjustable, it's controlled by the ECU, If however it's the cam belt timing, there is a crnk timing mark on the bottom pulley and the cam shafts have markings on theouter rim of the pulleys, these have to line up facing each other in a straight line using the centre bolts as a datum, all 3 marks should be aligned to be correct

Timing marks 2000 pt cruser 2.4 only non turbo

The is no way for you to set timing. the timing is computer controlled, i assume you need the timing marks for the timing belt, here are the alignment marks for the cam and crankshaft.

I replaced the camshaft position sensor P0340, now the OBD is reading a PO0016

Causes that bring up code P0016 may include:
  • Timing chain stretched, or timing belt skipped a tooth due to wear
  • Misalignment of timing belt/chain
  • Tone ring on crankshaft slipped/broken
  • Tone ring on camshaft slipped/broken
  • Bad crank sensor
  • Bad cam sensor
  • Damaged wiring to crank/cam sensor
  • Timing belt/chain tensioner damaged
  1. First, visually inspect the cam and crank sensors and their harnesses for damage. If you notice broken/frayed wires, repair and recheck.
  2. If you have access to a scope, check the cam and crank patterns. If a pattern is missing, suspect a bad sensor or a slipping tone ring. Remove the cam gear and the crankshaft harmonic balancer and inspect the tone rings for proper alignment and make sure they're not loose or damaged or that they haven't sheared the key that aligns them. If they are properly installed, replace the sensor.
  3. If the signal appears normal, then check the timing chain/belt for proper alignment. If it's misaligned, check for a damaged tensioner that may have allowed the chain/belt to slip a tooth or several teeth. Also check that the belt/chain isn't stretched. Repair and recheck.
Hope this helps

Changed the timing belt and camshaft sensor on a 2005 pt crusier pretty sure its timed correctly because the car seems to run fine and revs high with no problems although it still throws P0016 code even...

What the P0016 code means. P0016 is the OBD-II generic code indicating that the camshaft position sensor for bank 1 does not correlate to the signal from the crankshaft position sensor. The camshaft timing is out of position due to the timing chain jumped teeth. The camshaft phaser is out of position due to problems with phaser.

Timing belt problem

when you broke the belt you most likely broke the magnet for the cam sensor. What you need to do is spin the engine around to TDC and look for a magnet.

Take the sensor out first.
