Hi there!
First.- with the engine off and cool, put a flush and drain radiator cleaner run the engine for 10 minutes, turn it off, let it cool down.
Once the engine is not too hot, open the lowest hose of radiator while you put water in the main mouth of radiator.
Once you see the water flushing clear, put the hose back and then fill it with special GM antifreeze, (the one is orange color) put all gallon into it and the rest of water, LOOK FOR THE ONE YOU CAN ADD WATER, THAT'S THE BEST FOR YOUR VAN... Good Luck!
most likely and lets hope that's all it is, if your loosing a lot of fluid could be a leak, sometimes doesn't show til fluid warms up and the little leaky hole expands, checking levels wouldn't hurt and if your in nice weather conditions you can get home and around locally on just water but you will want to change it to antifreeze before the first cold snap of winter. Good rule of thumb is just go with straight antifreeze coolant so end of season comes and you don't forget that it's straight water by that time. watter freezes and ice is very unforgiving in tight spaces. good luck
put a 50/50 mix. remove radiator cap when cold, start car let run 1 min and dump 50/50 mix till full, a little will come out cap when thermostat opens this is normal, when thermostat opens coolant will go down, continue to fill till full, put cap on and fill reservoir to cold mark, check reservoir after you run a day and fill if needed to the full cold mark again
Antifreeze goes into the radiator. There should be both a radiator cap and also an overflow reservior. Top off the radiator and fill the reservoir to the "max fill" line. NOTE: DO NOT remove the radiator cap when the engine is warm. You'll get burned
IT DEPENDS SOME OLDERS CARS USE GREEN ANTIFREEZE.MOST NEWER VECHICLE USE DEXCOOL ORANGE ANTIFREEZE.YOU NEED TO LOOK UP TO SEE WHAT TYPE ANTIFREEZE VECHICLE USE BEFORE PUTTING ANY IN SYSTEM.IF YOUR CAP SAY COOLANT THEN THATS WHERE YOUR ANTIFREEZE GOES.
