I have a grinding noise in my transmission when I am driving and it is getting louder every day. When I engage my clutch or put it in neutral while driving then the noise stops. When I let off the clutch or put it back in gear then the grinding type noise starts again. What could be causing the problem and what would happen if I just leave it alone?

Whenever you have additional floor mats in the vehicle, the clutch pedal does not go to the floor. This, in turn, prevents the clutch release mechanism from releasing the clutch disc fully from the flywheel. This causes premature clutch disc wear. I would agree that you need a clutch replacement.
The replacement is pretty straight forward, as long as your guy has the ability to support & hold the engine assembly while the transmission is removed.
No big mysteries on the clutch replacement.

Hi there
Your rattling noise in engine bay ,dose it do it only when you start up, and if so dose the rattle go when the oil light on dash goes out, If yes then its either Low in oil/your parking on a slope/engine bearings worn/oil filter change and change oil to 30/50 oil.
you should only downshift to 1st whan stopped but you can change up and down the g/box without a clutch with correct Revs

Have the transmission repaired or replaced. The shift arm that shifts the gears is probably broken. That is why you cannot switch gears and is making that noise.

it sounds like it is either your clutch or the throw out bearing. either way you more than likely need to have to install a complete clutch kit (pressure plate, clutch disc, throw out bearing, and have your flywheel resurfaced.
