1 out often does it but yes, you have to pull one clear of the pumpkin by about 2 inches. Sometimes easy as pie sometimes drift hammer.

SOURCE: rear diff judders and ayc

I would have the vehicle put up on a hoist and have the rear support stablizer bars and their bushings checked for excessive wear.

SOURCE: Chevy Tahoe 2001

Place vehicle in 4wd (high or low). This will hold the front drive shaft still for the rest of the test. Jack up the front end of the vehicle. Remove the actuator. Have a buddy spin the right front wheel while you use a long punch or screwdriver to try to manually engage the diff. The left front wheel should spin in the other direction if the diff is good. Also before you check the diff you need to grab the front driveshaft and make sure it is locked, If it spins freely when the truck is in park and in 4wd with the front end raised then problem is in transfer case. If you can't make the diff engage manually with punch then the problem is in the diff. If front diff engages manually then the problem is the actuator. Hope this helps..

SOURCE: Front wheels do not turn

I did run the vehicle on the lift in 4wd. The actuator is trying to engage. I removed the right side axle housing and found the shim on the end of the shaft had fallen out of place. The small roller bearing in the shaft was damaged as well. This may have happended on a previous axle seal replacement. A new shim, and bearing fixed the problem. Thanks for our reply

What tools are needed to chang rear cv joint in a 2002 mercury mountaineer

Basic tools..remove wheel, remove axle nut, remove brake caliper, remove lower control arm bolts, remove the bolt for upper control arm, remove the outer tie rod bolt, support vehicle and suspension, the hardest part is getting the axle out of the rear diff, sometimes a simple pry bar will pop it out, but I've run into a lot where you either need the special pickle fork or even have to remove the complete rear diff with axle still attached, remove cover and take out c clip.if you continue prying and hammering between inner cv joint and diff, you will cause damage to diff.the cv joint is steel, cast maybe, and diff is aluminum so guess what will be damaged first? That'll lead into a pretty expensive repair.the special tool to remove axle is 205-529

How do you remove rear axle from 1995 ford ranger 2 wheel drive need to replace oil seal

Raise the vehicle and properly support it. Remove the wheel and drum. Remove the rear diff cover, have a drain pan underneath to catch the gear oil. Place the trans in nuetral, chalk the front wheels to keep vehicle from moving if you forget to put it back into park befor you lower the vehicle. Rotat the differential until you see the bolt that holds the diff pin in place. Remove the bolt, 5/16 or 8 mm I believe. You can then remove the diff pin, do not rotate the diff with the diff pin removed! Push the axle in, you can then remove the C-clip that holds the axle to the side gear, it will usuall drop or just fall out. Pull the axle out of the rear diff and replace the seal. Put everything back together. Use black or grey RTV to reseal the diff cover making sure o clean up both surfaces as best you can. Put trans in park. Lower the vehicle. Remove the fill plug from the side of the differential and fill with gear lube until lube comes out the hole. Reinstall the plug and your good to go. 1996 mitsubishi legnum vr4 ayc warning light showing on dash? not on when starting the car but with in few seconds when driving it comes on. what could be possible problems and is it ok to drive it like...

i have the same problem with mine, for some reason my oil lines keep snapping off where they bolt into the diff,

the red ayc light is there to show you theres a problem and it has shut off the ayc, i would look for any oil leaks along the two lines that go from the diff to the pump, and make sure there is oil in the filler tank in the boot,

failing this, have it plugged into a diagnostic computer to find out which error codes are being displayed and what they mean

How do i change out my rear end

remove wheels calipers and rotors, remove rear cover and drain oil from diff, remove abs sensors if it has abs, remove axle shafts, this is done by removing the 8mm bolt holding the pin, slide pin out push axle in to remove c clip holding axle then slide out, do the same to other side, note dont spin diff or gears will fall out, dissconect driveshaft, next remove axle vent and unbolt brake hose from axle, leaving brake lines connected unclip them from axle housing, next support diff with jack, dissconect lower shock bolts and slide shocks to side, remove upper control arm bolts from diff, slowly lower diff to release spring tension now remove springs and remove lower arm bolts. lower diff and take out. reverse to install. hope this helps.

How do u take out the pin on rear differential 2 release axels 2 replace seals

remove the rear rim and tires with the car on jack stands. remove rear diff cover. have a drain pan under it. you need to spin the diff. the pin can slide all the way though. one side is held in by a bolt. un bolt it. move diff so the pin will slide down and out. you then can push each axle in and remove the clips. then pull the axles out and replce the seals. not an easy or clean job.
