Low freon will cause the compressor to short cycle, when the compressor runs the pressure in the low line is pulled down and the low pressure switch turns it off. Not running the pressure builds up and turns it back on. In the old days there was no low pressure switch, with no freon to carry the oil the compressor was destroyed.
If we are talking about a pressure switch, it usually is the low pressure cut-off switch. Before messing with this switch, verify what your Freon pressure is. If the pressure is low, the low pressure switch may be fine and you need to add Freon and find out why the Freon escaped. If you have high pressure, there is a second switch which cuts power to the compressor. Too much Freon will activate this switch. Tip: You have both a high and low pressure switch. The proper amount of Freon will center the pressure and keep the compressor running more consistently. Either pressure switch unscrews from the fitting and with a minimum of pressure can be removed from the lines and replaced. The housing should have shapes for wrenches.
Sounds like a low Freon charge. You need to check the pressure in the system. You have 2 cutoff switches, one high pressure and the other is low pressure. You can not get more pressure without adding Freon, so it is likely that you lost pressure from a leak. Your low pressure switch is cycling too fast.
The pressure switch is right next to the battery negative terminal. To bypass the switch, remove the connector and use a paperclip to jump the terminals inside the connector. By the way, you need to put oil in the system, or the seals will quickly dry out.
Those pressures are OK and within specs. I would suspect the cooling issue lies with the air temperature control blend door actuator and or the blend door sticking in the ducting due to warpage.
Would first start by having the freon pressures checked to ensure the proper amount of freon was in the system, if any at all. If system is low or empty, a leak is present. If system is low, ultra-violet dye would need to be injected into the system along with freon and run the system, checking with a black light to find the leak.
ur high pressure switch is kicking ur compressor off, legally by law u need to have ur system evacuated then re charged,, u cant put any more in if system is full,,,u have to let some out,,how u do that is up to u,,u should find out how much the system holds,,sometimes there is a 134a\c sticker under hood or on passenger side strut tower that will tell u,,,drain it completely,,then ad the proper amount,,,,hope it helped,,
if its cycling on and off have the freon level checked, also check the pressure switch at the accumulator there is also one on back of the compressor, if the pressure is too high or too low theses switchs shut off power to the compressor, the low side one is notorious for failure becaude it is constantly working .
I would suggest to check the evaporator, normally found underneath the glove compartment. Check out the coils and the fan. While you are at it you can do some cleaning and see if it helps.
Sounds to me like its simply ran out of gas!, get the system inspected, the clutch wont engage if there is no pressure in the system, hence the switch problem.
Get it recharged and check for leaks, vehicle with air con will loose around 50grams per year from normal usage, if its been years since it was check it could simply just need recharging.
