Symptoms prior to CEL (All symptoms are intermittent): • Hesitation/power-loss during acceleration from stop correcting itself normally after a few seconds • Rough Idle after coming to complete stop (noticeable eng rpm or voltage fluctuation) sometimes feeling like it will stall • At driving speeds power seems okay (will downshift when pressing down pedal, no fluctuating, etc) Steps taken: • Replaced downstream O2 sensor (bank 1, sensor 2) • Cleared CEL Results: • Still noticed afore-mentioned symptoms almost immediately; however, the symptoms seem less dramatic and frequent • Resumed my high stress driving routine (many short trips in stop and go traffic) • After 70 miles over 5 hours the CEL showed its face again • Actually looked at the code reader this trip to parts store and noticed after the P0136 the reader referenced • P2270 O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Lean (Bank 1 Sensor 2) P2271 O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Rich (Bank 1 Sensor 2) • This morning start the car and CEL cleared itself (we did not clear the codes when I had them read) Recent Repair History • Had these same hesitation issues 03/11 only worse. • Repairs include replacing distr cap, plugs & wires, CAT convertor, and upstream O2 sensor (bank 1, sensor 1) at dealership. • For most part car has run good until earlier this week What else could be causing this? Will it damage the car to drive while trying to figure out this problem? What do the P2270 P2271 mean/indicate? Thank you for your time.
Is the wiring good going to the O2 sensors? Maybe just look the car over and see if you have any bad grounds. They can do weird things. Could be a bad ICU.
As far as I can tell the wiring is good. I did use the universal sensor but almost positive its right. Connectors good at both ends of harness. How would I check continuity of the sensor? I can check the continuity of the harness if need be. From what I have gathered this code would not cause the problem I am having with engine misfire at idle (only after stopping during operation). Could it be a vacuum leak? If you would care to view my more detailed explanation please view it here:

I don't know enough about Subaru to give much more in depth information, other than if it is a one wire it will generate a small amount of power .2-.8 volts. If it is a two wire unit you should check for ohms. Set meter on 200k scale and as it warms up you should see a variation. This can also be done with the sensor out of the car and heat it up some with a propane torch. Check the one wire with reference to ground (other lead on base of sensor) and two wire just check volts across the two wires. This is a general description for most cars, I am not familiar with Subaru. Please rate my answer so I get points for it. By the way a vacuum leak like you were asking about usually results in a higher than normal idle speed. If you think you have a vacuum leak you can spray some carb cleaner around and see if the engine speed changes to try and find it.
