My daughter's Kia Optima will not start. We have been changing fuses and have checked the fuel pump relay which seems to be working. we just don't know what diods 1 & 2 are, #'s 16 & 17 on the fuse panel are connected with. Any help would be appreciated. At a loss of what else the problem could be. Any Ideas? Brand new battery, seem to work fine and then all of the sudden it won't turn over.
You may have a more serious problem. When you say the engine won't turn over, do you mean the starter motor will not crank the engine? or that the engine cranks but will not start. if the battery and starter are good but the engine will not turn over (crank), you may have a damaged timing belt which allowed the pistons and valves to collide. this will lock up the engine and prevent it from moving. These are known as interference engines and are known to have this very problem
Always check the simplest things first. is it getting spark? if so, is it getting gas? if so, is it getting enough gas? and so on...

To confirm the clutch is slipping , drive at about 35mph in 5th gear and then put your foot to the floor (making sure the road in front is clear!) IF the engine note increases along with the revs and the speed stays the same then it is the clutch that needs replacing.

if you can some how manage to get it opened, spray some lubracant on the button inside the door. if not you'll need to replace the release cable.

I had my timing belt teeth break on me at 65k but it also broke my crank shaft sensor which will cost you about an extra 135.00 and you can only purchase at dealer. If the timing belt breaks on her she will be stranded. I would change it immediately. Oh by the way if they are changing the timing belt asked them to change the balance small belt that is inside where the timing belt area is at. There is a total of four belts that should be changed.
