I have a 1994 MR2 non turbo. the sidelights have suddenly ceased working, the front headlamps work fine along with the brakelights and indicators, but i have no side lights from or rear, no front fogs and no dashboard dials illumination lamps. does anyone have any ideas? relay perhaps?
My instrument lights went out and there is a fuse call 'guage' in the fuse box in the drivers footwell - try there
The 15 amp TAIL fuse is for the sidemarkers, the license plate, etc. There is a taillamp relay.
Both of these circuits are powered by the 50 amp AM1 fuse.
The fog lights are powered by the 15 amp FR FOG fuse.
The inst panel is powered by 3 fuses: 7.5 amp GAUGE, 15 amp DOME and 7.5 ECU-B.
Please check all of these, and if they are all good, please get back to me for more info.
Hope this helps.
Foglights: Look for power in the RED wire going to the foglamps
Taillamps: Look for power in ALL of the GREEN wires
Dash lights: Look for power in the GREEN and the Green/Red wire at the back of the dash simmer switch.
Advise of what your findings are.
Look for power in the Light Green with a Red trace at the headlamp switch
Look for power at the Gree wires at the front marker lamps.
Look for a ground at the White with a black tracer at the marker lamps, and re-read the previous post, look for ground at the White with a black tracer at the fogs and taillamps
Remove the foglight relay, and jump pins 3 and 5 of the relay socket with a short piece of wire.
Advise of the results wth the foglights
Passenger side, under the front hood. The foglight relay is directly across from the 15 amp DOME fuse and the 30 amp RTR fuse.
Sockets 3 and 5 are directly in line with the DOME fuse
Check for power in the fog light relay socket, holes 1 and 5, 5 is closest to the DOME fuse, and 1 is in line with the 30 amp RTR fuse, with the key on, and the fog light switch on. Advise.
We are making progress....Can you front me a FixYa?
See if you can see the wires under the relay socket...You should have power in the Red with a Yellow tracer, hole #1, and power in the Red with a Black tracer; hole #5. Hole number 5 gets its power from the FR FOG fuse.
The Green/Yellow wire comes directly from the fog light switch. If you have no power in the Gree/Yellow wire, I am beginning to suspect the headlamp switch may have failed.
We can check power in/power out, at the HL switch, if you desire.
Also, Thanks for the FIxYa upgrade. Much appreciated!
Yes. The main switch, on the ST wheel.
Light Green with a Red tracer comes out of the switch, the it goes into the headlamp retract relay, and then that colour changes to Light Green
You should have power in the wire with the switch on. It gets its power from terminal 2 of the taillamp relay, Light Green. Then goes into the retract control relay, and then to the switch, via th LG w/R wire. The switch does not "Send" power, it provides a ground for the various relays.
Excellent.
Thanks for the update; Hope I helped you out. Thanks for choosing FixYa!

cheers for the above..
i have checked the 15amp tail fuse and this is fine and there is power to it.
i have checked the fog light fuse and this is fine with power,
the instrument panel fuse is also ok with power.
you also mentioned the 50amp AM1 fuse, do you know where this is located?
i have checked as you have advised.
Foglights: Look for power in the RED wire going to the foglamps.... no power.
Taillamps: Look for power in ALL of the GREEN wires. only power is for brake lights and indicators.
Dash lights: Look for power in the GREEN and the Green/Red wire at the back of the dash simmer switch. ..no power at dimmer switch
i have checked for power at switch and this is ok..
green wires at the front lamps... no power
the earth wires at all lamps are ok..
can you tell me where the foglight relay is located?
i have checked the above and when i connect wire between terminal 3 and 5 the front fogs come on
there is power in socket 1 but not in socket 5
i have checked fusebox and there is power in the wire to socket 5.
the wire that goes to socket 1 is green and yellow and there is no power, even with ignition and lights turned on
will that be the switch on the stalk on the steering wheel?
what colour wires is the in/out on the stalk for the sidelights? as front headlamps work fine from that stalk
should the light green with red tracer wire be live from the switch?
i have power in the light green/red wire, but this appears to go to a connector block and comes out as light green with black stripe, this wire is also live.. where is the retract control relay?
thanks for all your advice, i,ve eventually located the fault, it was a faulty tailamp relay..
