My head lights brighten abs and brack lights come on the dash for a few seconds sometimes the abs light comes on and stays on and drains the battery

speedometer prabably stopped working also. ABS module shorted out. Will need to be rebuilt. Go to modulemaster.com. Put in your car info. The site will advise how to diagnose kind of. It will tell you how to remove unit and ship and how to protect the connector and valve body so you can still drive your car. This happened to my 2000 528i so i'm confident this is your problem. When you get the unit back just hook it up and away you go. Lights will go off on thier own right away. Dealer wants over 1000 bucks and will only sell you a new unit. This should be around $350 all said and done.

My guess is the the new ECU isn't from a base model.

You need an auto electrician with a professional grade scan tool computer. It may be possible to program the ABS and Traction Control out of it. for the Brake Lights issue check that the bulb in the high level brake light is working. That kept me guessing for over a year!

if you are saying that the dash lights go dim and bright while driving it could be a loose connection of the wiring harness behind the speedo nacal.

ABS light
This light can Mean a Few Different Things. It could mean that the Brake Pads are in need of Replacement, The Brake Master Cylinder needs to be Replaced, It could even be Telling you that You were Bracking very Hard Earlier on. Like you would not Know! LOL If it does not go off and the Brake Pedal is ok and it will stop ok, Just Run into a Brake shop and have them take a Quick look and see if these things are OK. brake pads are the ONLY way to stop you going like 30mph+ when you hit like a wall or person or like another road user & if you do crash YOU will be totally at fault for having an unfit car. The best way to get the lights on your dash to go out is to fit new pads. The lights show that the time when the brakes WILL fail is drawing very near, it is stilll up to you to get the pads changed. You will not get any further warnings from your car prior to not being able to stop at all thus causing endangerment. You will be shocked at just how bad they were when you feel the new pads.

Dash warning light
Do you mean the ABS and BRAKE lights? If so, the ABS module is bad which causes both lights to come on. After rebooting, the module gets tested and the ABS light will come on after a few seconds. If it a module problem the BRAKE light will also come on. The brakes will work normally, but will not provide the anti-lock feature.
