2001 Nissan Quest - Broken Exterior Sliding Door Handle
Originally, the lower part of the driver side exterior door handle broke loose and the door could not be opened using the exterior door handle. Door could open via the interior handle. A couple days later, the interior door handle no longer opens the door (so the door will not open at all now). Is this a "dealership" fix or can a weekend warrior fix this?
I have the same broken handle On a 2002 passenger front door. Could someone please e-mail me some info? Question, do these handles come in colors or will I need to paint? Thanks in advance.

Hey snorkelbobby, if you have any instructions that would be awesome! My wife is getting tired of the passenger-only entering and exiting and I'm too tight to let the dealership get my $500 for this. I just replaced an interior door handle on my Suburban and it was not too difficult, but that was a GM (and there are lots of cheap parts & instructions on the internet for GMs - not so much for Nissan Quests...). Thanks for your assistance! ~FRagsASUHey snorkelbobby, if you have any instructions that would be awesome! Trying to find information on replacing the handle on our 2001 Nissan Quest myself. I'm a female with little car experience and was hoping it was something I could do on my own. I have also broke off my 2001 Nissan Quest sliding door handle on the driver side. With the below 0 weather here and the freezing of the doors, I knew it was inevitable. However, I'm not willing to pay hundreds of dollars for someone else to do this. I am a female who doesn't do much work on cars, is this something I can handle on my own and if so, does anyone have any information as to how I would do that?I have also broke off my 2001 Nissan Quest sliding door handle on the driver side. Did anyone find the answer for this? I have the same problem on a 2000 Mercury Villager (Nissan Quest); child proof lock was set and the outside door handle is broken off.Did anyone find the answer for this? Mostly clips, screws hold the handle on and bezel around it has clips that can carefully be pried off.. A door panel tool should be used to enage and pry panel clips off
the child lock rod may have been extended...
open the driver side door, and with a skinny finger, push that child lock rod back in towards the rear of the sliding door
use the passenger side as reference
once you pushed it in, you can now open it from the inside handle
Order the exterior door handle AND the clip that attaches the rod to the exterior handle from your local dealership ( any part in the salvage yard will have at least as much wear as the one U are replacing ) Also order a can of touch up paint matching your car. After you have the parts and have painted the new exterior handle, roll down the window and remove the interior door panel. ( instructions have been posted at 'replace door lock buttom' ) Two nuts, one on each side, hold the broken handle in place and must be removed ( DON'T loose them ). Loosen the rod from the clip at the top to allow a bit more room, But take note on the way it is attached ( you will need to reattach the rod to new handle ) To install new mechanism put the new clip on the rod, carefully place the gasket and the new handle in place and install nuts to secure. Test the door handle and make sure it works. Reinstall interior door panel.
