Engine oil light keeps coming on and off when i stop driving on my dodge caravan 2002

The oil light is the serious problem-it may mean the engine has lost oil pressure which is very dangerous. Don't drive with the oil light on- have a shop check your oil pressure with a mechanical oil pressure gauge. The previous owner's negligence in not changing the oil may have caused serious internal damage.
The code is not truly a diagnostic trouble code-it only indicates the battery has been disconnected within the last 50 starts, which would have erased any stored codes if there were any.

it sounds like your oil pump is a gonner and if you keep on driving your engine will be too if its not too late already. stop driving it and get your oil pump checked

Check for low oil level on engine dipstick. If not that, change the oil, it is getting too thick. If not that, there is a clog in the oil pump or the oil filter. Change the oil filter first.

Hi, try putting in a new oil pressure switch. If the light continues to come on, you will need a new oil pump. The oil pressure switch cuts off the fuel pump when the oil pressure is low. Please let me know if you have more questions.

If your oil level is full, light is off and no abnormal engine noises, if should be ok to drive to the shop. If light does come on, stop the engine. I would also have the shop check your oil pressure with a manual gauge, to determine the exact oil pressure reading. This could save you from major engine failure due to low oil pressure. Change your oil pressure sender. The oil pressure sender will usually break before the oil pump will. If you are driving with the oil light on and the motor has not seized the oil pump is probably all right.When your oil light comes on you need to turn your car off immediately so you do not damage your engine crankshaft and camshaft bearings. If you change the oil pressure sender and the oil light stays on then you should replace your oil pump before more serious damage happens to the motor.

If its burning the oil that means that the oil rings on the pistons are bad and the only thing to do is to rebuild or replace the engine it is usually less money to replace the engine with a good used engine.Sorry

The engine bearings and oil pump are getting worn. Try 'high-mileage' oil next oil change (be sure to change the filter too). If you have been running 10-30 oil, go to 10-40 which has more viscosity and maintains oil pressure better. The sure fix is a fresh engine, but not cheap. We had a '96 Caravan that had over 300,000 miles and still running well on the original engine when we bought a later model Caravan.

You need to get it scanned to see what those codes are. Autozone, Pep Boys and other big autoparts stores will usually scan for free. If codes don't tell you what is obviously wrong, get back to us with them & we'll help you out.
