92 gmc sierra k1500: changed key ignition, starter and solenoid fine, all connections to battery fine. Still won't start. Think it's the ignition switch or relay on the steering column. Wh
Seems like no electrical current flowing to the starter. Hot-wired from battery to starter with iginition in ON position - engine starts. Check Battery voltage
Battery voltage at the starter solenoid.
Battery voltage at Purple wire at the starter solenoid
***Remove both grounds wire and clean it with a file.***
If it won't crank over, it's a problem in the starting circuit, not the ignition circuit. Check your battery and starter for clean, tight connections. Listen for that click to see if it comes from the starter solenoid on the starter-maybe have someone try to start it while you watch and listen under the hood. If the click is from the solenoid (and not from the starter relay), then the starter is not getting full battery power to crank (bad connection), or the starter needs to come off and be tested. If the click is from the starter relay, you could pull off the little purple wire to the starter solenoid and see if it has 12 volts when the key is in start position. If you have power there in cranking position on the switch, the solenoid is bad or the starter may be the problem-again, it will have to come off for testing. If you have no power at the solenoid in cranking position, the circuit from the ignition switch to the solenoid is not working. The start relay and the neutral safety switch (or clutch switch if manual transmission) are in the starting circuit from ignition switch to the starter solenoid. Good luck.
When you turn the ignition to start, do you hear the starter turning and the solenoid engaging the flywheel ? test your starter by jumping it and see if the engine turns over. If this works, then you might consider in checking fuel pressure. Do you have any codes in your ECM ?
check for power at starter and also check for power on ignition wire on starter selonoid while ignition is turned to start position. be cautious as it could engage. do you have power to trk radio, lights etc?? If not then check all batt cables connections to batt and grounds and to starter. also check fuses for a starter relay.
teeth could be broke off the fly wheel...the fly wheel is what the starter engages with to turn the engine over,,,it looks like a big gear with lots of teeth....check the starter first and see if it is fully engaging.....tap with a hammer while turning the key..sometimes this will release it..thank you and have a great day
sounds like starter solenoid, try cycling the ignition on start on start repeatly but do not go back to the off position off on start will activate the fuel pump repeatly and might flood it,with a faulty solenoid you can usually cycle the ignition repeatly and it will finally engage the starter
does the starter make a "clicking noise" when it wont turn over? check your battery cables at the battery and at the starter solenoid....if it not a connection , then it sounds like a bad starter relay/solenoid
