Engine cuts out (sometimes) when accelerating from, eg, a stop street, traffic lights, then will start again straight away

I would suggest a fuel pressure test. It sounds like you may have a clogged fuel filter or a fuel pump that is not maintaining adequate pressure under load. Obviously the fuel filter is the simplest and quickest place to start and might be best to change before doing the pressure test. Good luck.

1972 VW Dune Buggy Stalling when coming to stop

Sounds like a fuel starvation problem. Start with the fuel filter, then have the carb rebuilt. Make sure the idle setting has not changed.

My 1990 Celica won't stay at a steady idle. It will fluctuate between 1100 and 1800 RPMs every second unless I have it in a gear driving or rev the engine past 2000 RPMs.This started after getting it back...

Here are the most common causes of idle surge, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.0 litre petrol. Starts from cold (stood overnight). Twelve minute drive to work - slowing down at lights etc engine stalls constantly. No problem re-starting. Pull into a layby...

Same problem for me. The car would idle at about 2500 when started from cold and about 3 miles on would not idle at all, resulting in the revs dropping off when changing gear or stopping. Also rather jerky in top gear unless thrashed - numerous trips to the garage for air idle valve, injectors etc. but still a problem! Have just found out that GVs are a bit prone to carbon build up in the throttle body - mine was almost blocked - it now feels like a different car.
