Transmission fluid change intervals

2004 nissan sentra 1.8L. My sister was given the option of just replacing the fluid, or if she wanted to chage out the filter also. Is this filter replaceable? What is the interval for fluid change and filter change. All help will be grreatly appreciated.

Ya but if nissan planted filter's in there tansmission's then they would grow, right?NISSAN does not install filter's in the tran's.It is a permanent screen and luckily for people all I have to do is undo the plug from the pan and drain while hot, screw the screw the plug back in and funnel your new fluid back in to the tran from the dip stick tube(my 04 sentra 1.8s 4speed automatic takes 5 quart's but holds 6-type D nissan fluid from dealer, change about every 15 to 20 thousand miles to keep it clean and thin.Remember trans fluid is petroleum and get's hot burn's and thicken's making restriction's on rotating metal). My car has over 90,000miles and shift's perfect

We don't change automatic transmission filters on any Nissan, they are not a service item. Changing the fluid or (machine) flushing it is the only needed servicing needed. If they are telling you they are going to change your filter, find a new repair facility. Hope this helps.

Maybe "Roger The Farmer" should stick to FARMING and let the professionals who do this for a living answer the questions. If you knew anything about NISSAN automatic transmissions (which this post is about), you would know that NISSAN's do not have filters in the transmission that are serviceable without dissassembling the unit. But thanks for the AUTO TRANS 101 course. In vehicles that have a serviceable trans filter it SHOULD be replaced as needed per the recommended service interval. If you originally answered that question for the poster you would have been wrong as the response you gave wasn't pertaining to NISSAN. Thanks for trying though. Maybe you should troll around in the GM forums where your general knowlegde would be more useful.

Don't listen to SUL 827, he evidently doesn't know much about automatic transmissions and the health of there operation. Automatic Transmission filter replacement is vital to the extended life of your transmission. As clutch plates wear the fluid in your transmission become dirty and abrasive. As you would guess the fluid is filtered to remove these partials. Over time the filter becomes clogged lowering the amount of fluid circulating in your transmission causing heat and undo stress to build. If you replace the filter and fluid at regular intervals you will dramatically extend the life of your transmission. With that said you should also know most automatic transmissions fail due to torque converter failure. As the torque converter ages the fins that build hydrolic pressure stretch and cup, this causes the transmission to move less fluid, build less pressure to hold clutch packs together. Over time slippage occurs causing increased wear until they finally fail. Heat and pressure loss are the leading causes for automatic transmission failures.

Two codes coming up on car even after fixing alot on car now need to figure out low cost ways to fix P0744 & P0722 code issues spent 1,800 on car & have spent 1,400 already in parts & labor.

you need a better mechanic that traces ALL of the possibilities of each code, not just read the code and trow in a part hoping that it's fixed ~ it can be wiring as well, not just plug in a new part as mentioned on the 2nd trouble code to the vehicle speed sensor

P0744 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Intermittent

P0722 Output Speed Sensor No Signal

the first of the 2 looks to be more intensive to trace and find out the problem & the 0722 is the easier job for an intermediate mechanic to trace the wiring for continuity

2001 Nissan Sentra XE: Automatic Transmission Fluid I've searched the Owner's Manual about changing the ATF. It provides the intervals for checking and topping up the fluid, but as for REPLACING...

no, its not maintenance free, you still have to check the fluid level, and change the oil and filter in the transmission about every 50 to 70 thousand miles(due to the fact your not towing or having to to the car). This just maintenance that should be done. The fluid will break down over time, and need to be changed. The filter needs to changed in-case of getting clogged. Yes, dirt, and stuff do get in. When you take the car to your mechanic for the transmission filter and oil change, ask, they should check the differential(should you have rear-wheel drive). As for us, its part of the service package. We do the complete change for one price(oil, transmission, check ALL fluids, (older cars get greased) tires and tire pressure). Ask them what is all included in the job, and the total price. You can get great deals that way. I hope this helped

I just got an oil change and the guy recommended that i get my automatic transmission fluid flushed...i have 48,000 miles on my car..should i do this service for $120?

It should be done, usually around 30,000 miles or 24 months, whitchever comes first. Shop around, $120, I think is a little high.

04 nissan sentra shifting hard

Do you have a CVT? (Continuosly Variable Transmission) I doubt that you do so if you dont, nissans are known to have hard shift into second gear you mean.(Once the car moves, its already in first gear) so if it shifts fine into other gears, I wouldnt worry too much unless it gets worse.
