Here is a picture of the brake light switch. Also at this point just buy a new connector and splice it on, much easier.

Brake controller or trailer brakes connections or brake light to run system

The brake switch at the pedal does have six wires, but none go to the multifunction switch (on the steering column). The white wire with tan tracer goes to the combination flasher to be integrated with the turn signals/hazard lights. The combination flasher is under the dash next to the steering column and has a sixteen pin connector (ten of which have wires).

Go to alldatadiy.com and buy the wiring for your vehicle. Other wise go to the junk yard and cut the plugs and wires out of an exact vehicle. This is the only two ways you will fix it. Exact diagrams or exact plugs and switches.

Brake tail light strip on trunk is out. trouble shoot ? bulb on right side tail light is out. but can't find data on tail light strip of lights on trunk

Lets simply thing here. American Auto Manufacture use three wires set for it rear light assembly. One wire to the braking switch for both stop lights, one wire for the clearance light on both sides. Now if you look at the plug for taillight assemble there will three wires and didn't mention the third wire, it's ground. The two brake light uses one wire, then for on or clearance light uses one wire, and the ground uses one wire On old automobile normal the grounds any place on the body. But now the grounding points to make sure there isn't a faulty ground.

Turn signal light are a separate circuit as with the back up lights. I fairly sure your Caddy uses a Mylar strip with copper strips on it. Find were this copper strips are broken, scratch off the thin layer insulation and solder a jumper wire across the broken copper strip.

There will be a Central location where these light are tied together. Left brake light wire goes to the one wire from the brake switch under the dash, the right brake light goes to the same tied point to brake light switch under the dash. The Central wire point will be at one of the back lights. Just follow the colored wire. Now, each has two colors, one solid and one strip is colored with different colors. I hope this help you. I have installed a brake controller and I cant find the brake switch which I must tie into to make the trailer brakes work. I think I found the switch but the wires seem awfully thin.

Hi, if you pull the connector off the switch and the brake lights no longer work, you have the right wires. These wires do not carry the current for the trailer brakes. You will have another wire from the controller to the trailer plug for those. That wire is usually 14 gauge or larger--follow the directions to get the proper size. You are hooking in to the brake switch wire just so the controller knows when you are stepping on the pedal. Make sure you connect to the wire that does not have power except when you step on the pedal. I would tell you the color, but I do not have the diagram. Use a 12 volt test light to see which terminal in the connector is hot. The wire you want is the other one. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

Bought a new brake light switch, wires fell off the old connector, need to know where and what order the wires go on the new brake light switch 1995 chevy blazer 4.3 engine , 4-door

It shouldn't matter what order the wires are attached. The switch is N.C (Normally Closed).

When you press your foot on the brake all it does is Open/Break the contact between the two wires.

Cannot get shifter out of park without using screw driver

I have found broken wires right at the connector on the brake light switch. That switch does a lot more than just activate the brake lights, it also releases the shifter interlock solenoid, and that is why you have to press the brake pedal to shift out of park. (there may be two switches attached your brake pedal lever, if so then check both wire connectors carefully for broken wires).

Someone cut tail light wire and i need to know how to fix it

If you can see the cut wires then simply join the same color coordinating wires with a crimping style wire connector that you can purchase from WalMart or any auto parts store. Make sure and strip the plastic casing around the wires on both ends before using the wire connector. After the connector has been crimped to both wires, wrap electrical tape around the connector to seal off from water.
