Very hard to tell for the untrained eye.but here goes, infrared is a solar film on the windshield (used mostly on high end bmw's). from the outside look at the perimeter of the windshield, the out side 2-3 inches, and see if you can see a difference in the glass. I know there is a black frit band around the edge, that's not it, but the infrared does not run into the black frit band and you can see the infrared end. also in the center by the rear view mirror is your rain sensor. a rain sensor cannot "see" through infrared therefore there is a missing patch or cut out for the rain sensor. again look for a difference in the glass (not the black frit band) I take it you are getting your windshield replaced. Infrared windshields are very expensive and not that common. You can replace a infrared with a regular windshield and vis versa no problem (just you won't have the infrared). stop in at your local glass shop and ask a tech to look and tell you if it is infrared. The scanner uses an LED, or Cold Cathode Lamp to light up the negatives. Two or three mirrors then reflect the image through different filters and lenses until it reaches the CCD (Charged Coupled Device). Some scanners, such as Canon's Canoscan, use infrared light so the connecting software can easily identify and remove dust before the negative is scanned onto the computer.
Finally, the CCD collects the information and converts it into electronic signals on the computer. The resulting scan is either a simple image ready to be edited, or it can be a slightly compressed image that the scanning software has enhanced.
