98 ford explorer high idle

Idles high in park , about 2100 rpm, seems to do fine while driving but don't have to give it much gas, at stops - shifts down hard

Its either a faulty idle air control valve or a faulty fuel pressure regulator. My bet would be the idle air control valve. If you pull the vacuum hose off the fuel regulator or the map sensor and fuel runs out then the regulator is bad.If you replace the control valve then you have to reset the computer.

I have a 1993 Ford Explorer that goes into high idle when I put in gear. It does this when the engine is hot or cold.

On some cars there's a speed sensor on the clutch or transmission. That might cause an idle problem.

2002 escape 3.0 idle fluctuates and misfires when driving

No such thing as a tune-up

All you did was replace spark plugs which should be
done every 3 years

Oxygen Sensors get replaced at 100,000 miles which you
also did

You most likely have an intake gasket leak, smoke test
the entire Evap System & Engine

You also are have bad igniton coils

My explorer idles fine in park but skips and misses when under load

K the next thing to check is the throttle position sensor. It's probably going bad. The same thing happened to me on my 1995 F250 5.8L

2001 Ford Explorer idles rough when at a stop in drive. Runs fine and idles in park fine. Surges also. Has new spark plugs and wires. Any suggestions of what may be causing the problem?

sounds like a vacuum intake leak..check a those little tubes for cracks and security. also check your transmission levels, this will sometimes cause a surging problem while driving..if all this checks good then it might be dirty or clogged injectors..purchase a can of Sea Foam from Autozone $10 pour in 1/2 can to half tank of gas and drive around for thirty minutes..highway driving preferred, and see if that will clean up the fuel system. Can i get some feedback, thanks

Idles up and down about 500 rpm

I had the same problem and it turned out to be cylinder one wasn't firing correctly (bad plugs). It could be any cylinder but mine was number one. I replaced the plug and it's fine now.
