Gas pump repeatedly shuts off when fueling.

When trying to add fuel the pump will keep shutting off. Yes the tank is low. I am not trying to overfill it. I'll have to squeeze the trigger 30 or 40 times to get a few gallons of gas in there. Is this a sensor problem of some kind? Tried slowing the flow, tried repositioning the nozzel etc. It does not happen every time but far too often.

You have a little valve on top of your fuel tank that feeds the purge canister. This is a fuel vapor control valve for emissions. It has probably plugged. You may need to drop the tank to fix this. If so replace the fuel filter then too.

You can try going to a local auto parts store to get a length of tubing...about 1/4 inch or so. This needs to be rated for fuel. You will feed this tube into your tank where you fill it with gas. You need to have enough room for the fuel nozzle to fit next to it. feed the tubing down into the tank...but dont lose it inside. Then fill the tank. the tubing will vent the tank in place of the bad valve.

You may have a partial blockage of the air vent. You might try something as simple as using a non-metal long strip that can reach the tank through the vent hole in the fill tube. Be very careful not to use anything that may cause a spark as you may cause a dangerous explosion. If that doesnt solve the problem. you should either remove the tank and clean it or have that done. My guess is that if the tank is that dirty you need to replace the screen and pump in the tank while you are there.

With my 2005 Chrysler Town and Country van, I have trouble fueling the vehicle. The nozzle keeps shutting off as if the gas tank is full. What do I need to do?

Usually a sign of a blockage in the vent pipe inside the filler tube, or the vent for the gas tank. Air pressure inside the tank has to be equalized as the fuel is added.

Fuel tank vent on a 04 silverado, where is it?

If the vent solenoid where stuck than the pump would constantly shut off on you. It would literally take you 30 minutes to fill you tank.

When everything is working correctly the pump will shut off and that is all the gas you should add to your tank. Adding a little more gas is fine but anytime you overfill the tank you run the risk of ruining the charcoal canister.

On your particular vehicle it is not that expensive. Try in on a honda and your looking at a minimum of $1200 dollars!

If the gauge is reading ful than it is full. There is no need to add more.

Difficult to start have to keep pumping the gas been sitting 8 m

To stop this from happening in the future, add fuel stabalizer to fuel tank when you store it. Run your car for 10 minutes before shutting it off. It would also be helpful to fog the engine also before storing. You can get fogging oil at any auto supply store. As for your immediate problem try adding carburator cleaner to gas tank.

2004 silvarado truck shuts off at times like it is out of gas but the gage is showing that it is not on empty. i put gas in the truck and it starts up immediately

Your fuel pump is going bad. It is in the gas tank. it shuts off when you are low on gas, because it gets hot. when you add enough gas to cover the pump, then it runs cooler, and will work. you can get by a month or so,just keeping your tank filled...but eventually the tank need to be removed, the pump pulled from tank and replaced with a new one.

Fuel fill problem gas pump keeps shuts of when i try to fill

Iown 02 hyundai accent gl 1.6l. Had the problem twice. I used to over fill the tank until I had to spend close to $550.00 USD. The problem is when we overfill the tank. the carbon canister gets clogged and it damages a sensor in the assembly called "DMTL". Thia assy is located under the rear driver side of the car to the left and rear of the fuel tank. Once I replaced the carbon canister, sensor and filter the problem went away. if you let it go for a long time you eventually start smelling gas inside the car after fill ups. Good luck.

Takes a long time to fuel up ,dispencer will keep shutting off. like it is not venting

You're right, its not venting. There could be anything stuck in there, leaves are likely culprits this time of year.

The other possibility is, if the vehicle has been in an accident, the fuel fill pipe going from your tank to you gas filler hole is kinked.

If you have a kinked line get it replaced. If you have a clogged vent try to either pull it out if you can reach it with tweazers, **** it out with a vaccuum, or blow it into the tank with a high pressure air hose. Blowing it would be the last choice for obvious reasons but regardless of what it is your fuel pumps filter should catch it and keep it from being sucked into your fuel lines.

Car will not run

The fuel pump is inside the gas tank. There is no fuel shut off switch unless it runs through the oil pressure switch circut, meaning if the oil pressure gets low enough,it shuts off the fuel pump to keep from damaging the engine.Good luck,
