SOURCE: power steering audi a6 1999

First, I'd try refilling the fluid. You can't use fluid off the shelf - Audi uses proprietary power steering fluid, available at dealerships (probably a VW dealer can give you the same thing) or online at www.germanautoparts.com or www.ecstuning.com. Try refilling it. The power steering fluid is cooled by a cooler behind the lower part of the bumper, and the fluid itself cools the power steering pump. If you're low on fluid, the pump may be heating up and in turn, heating the fluid. Fill it to the proper level and keep an eye on it for a couple of days and see if that fixes the problem.

SOURCE: Oil questions for 2003 Audi A6 Quattro

oil type is either 5W-30W or 10W-30W depending how cold your climate is, as far as having the car properly taken care of, the Audi dealer is the best option, they have all the proper tools and service info needed to keep the car in top running condition.

SOURCE: AUDI A6 WINDOW PROBLEMS

This is a common problem with the C5 A6 models. Before you replace the fuse for the windows (I think it's number 14, but i don't have a manual in front of me - Anyway, it's the 10A fuse that's blown!) Look under the back of both front seats and you'll see a light that illuminates the floor for the back seats. Rem ove the light from each seat by prying it out with a flat screwdriver and disconnect both leads. Replace the fuse, and your windows (moon roof and interior lights as well) should now work. The lumbar support causes something to short out the lights. I've tried insulating the lights on mine, but the problem always comes back so I just disconnected them altogether.

2005 Audi A6 4.2 with heavy steering

Check the power steering fluid, it could be that it's just low. If it's full it might be time to get it changed. Also check the tension on the motor belt. If it's loose you won't get full power to the pump.

the crank pulleys (also called a harmonic dampener) on these vehicle are a fairly common failure. as they begin to break apart, the pulley will begin to have a wobble as the engine runs, causing the drive belts that power your alternator, power steering, etc to loosen off. when the belts then get wet, combined with being loose, they will slip, causing your accessories not to work. hope this was helpful!

AUDI A4 headlights don't work

Nope, it's the stalk/switch - they're VERY common failures on these cars. I've had my 99 for 40k miles (bought it used) and I'm on my third one. It's $158 from www.ecstuning.com (it's called the "combination switch") and the install is about 45 minutes and requires removal of the airbag and steering wheel.

If you're in the NE US, reply with an email address and I can contact you and do it for you.

1989 Audi 500 se Automatic - Speedomoter

The gear on the odometer is stripped. Quite the common problem with Audi's of this vintage. Parts available at: http://speedometergears.com/

To fix, you have to pull the gauge cluster, remove the speedo from the cluster, then remove the odometer from the speedo. The gear replacement is pretty easy once you get it all apart.
