I'm working on my mother's car which is not turning over. The key was allowing power when it was off and when the key was turned past the accessory mode it would not even click. Now, there is no power at all. The battery and alternator were checked by a local auto shop and found to be in good condition (based on their levels). I replaced the ignition switch as I thought that might be the culprit noting the loss of power when the key was turned to start. But, that has not solved the problem. Next I purchased a new starter as I was told a bad starter could drain the battery and create similar symptoms. My problem is I can't get the starter out. It is mounted parallel to the cross member and there is a rigid plastic shroud that covers the openings and sits between the starter and a mounting plate above the cross member. Any suggestions on getting the starter out?!?!? Or perhaps on some other solution?!?!
I really appreciate your help.

I seem to have the same problem. The manual I just bought indicates that to get the starter out, the engine mounts have to unbolted and the engine raised slightly to get to the lower bolts.

SOURCE: 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora won't start

if the car sat for two years and was never started.... the motor could very well be seized.... to get at the starter .... is usually done from the bottom. If you can removed the starter... test it to see if it's working.... something else you can try if you can see the starter ... is to tap it gently with a hammer while someone attempts to start it...

SOURCE: new starter but car wont start

funny...you have just told me what is wrong with it!!!
check power in, power out at the ignition switch...likely it has failed. switch is on the top of the steering column under the dash and is sometimes easier to reach if you disconnect the column from the dash and permit the sterering wheel to rest on the seat.

The click you hear is the starter relay. Check for continuity thru relay with battery negative cable disconnected and switch in start position. If no continuity, it probably has burned contacts. Sometimes these can be taken apart and contacts filed/sanded cleaned.

SOURCE: 1983 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Electrical problem. I AM STUMPED

It goes thru the dash circuits. Yes! add a wire from the alternator output to the plus battery . The charge lite may be inoperative - either on or off. You might want to put a fuse in that new line.
A cheap volt-ohm-meter would help you see if the alternator is charging 14-14.8 volt and the alterantor field is being energized.

My Mother-in-law age 86 drove her 95 Olds Ceria to the grocery and when she came out it would not start. It was fine when she went in to the store. It has 35,000 miles on it. What do you think happened?

sounds like the fuel pump went out, a fuel pump doesnt go out by mileage all the time they can also go out do to age the car being a 95 makes the car 16 years old so that is the first thing i would check take off the gas cap and put your ear to the nozzle and have someone turn the key to the on possition and listen for a humming sound if it doent make a sound your fuel pump is defintely went out. hope this helps.

I have a 95 the key goes in but won't

Either the key or the keyswitch is worn.To check the key switch with a little preasure on the key try moving the steering wheel back and forth this should release the steering lock and allow the key to turn If this dosent work get a key cut and it may work but if possible get a new one from a dealer they will get you one if you have the chassis number and proof of ownership.

1990 olds 98 blower motor wont shut off stay on when key is turn off

I would start at the fuse. Does the blower motor turn off when the fuse is pulled? A relay is usually used in this circuit and can sometimes "stick" allowing the blower motor to receive constant power. A quick check to see if it is a wiring problem, switch or the relay its self would be to find the blower fan relay and see if there is another one of the value you can swap with it. If the problem goes away, chances are it is the relay but I always like to take a volt/ amp reading to double check my work.
