I have the same issue. I replaced the ignition cylinder but the key is not correct type. How do you find out what type of key you need to disable the security. Can it be bypassed somehow, or removed? I don't even need the stock security system.

These cars have an antitheft system called VAT. The key have 15 different values. This means fifteen different resistant values. For those who still have your keys use an ohm meter and take a reading on that little black thing on the key near the finger grip; write that value down. Then match that value to the correct key numer 1-15; get that key and have it cut; it should work. Also the wires can go bad in the ignition lock and the system won't read the key and will cutout the starter and fuel pump for around 10-15 minutes then reset. To fix this is to either replace the lock and the two wires that go with it. You can  bypass the vats using the correct value resister and finding the two small wires under the dash coming from the steering column unplug it and stick each end of the resistor in the female side of the plug going into the dash area. For those who have lost their keys you will need allot of patance and get all fifteen value keys in resistors; try them one at a time until you get the right one. The wrong one will trigger the security system and you will have to wait 10-15 minutes for each reset before trying again. Then get a new ignition lock and same key number 1-15 according to the resistor value; cut it for the new lock and install. The only other way is to buy a new vats module they program one time only and tear the dash out of the car to get to it.

2004 Grand Prix want to know how to bypass this security system about ignition because I lost my keys how do I get this car started

Short answer... you can't. There are two computers and the anti-theft module there specifically there to stop what you are trying to do, drive the car without the correct credentials!

When the car was new, it had three keys, when you lose key 3 and then key 2 you buy another so that when you lose the next one, you still have one to make a copy. so you lost your only key.

You need an auto locksmith. He can use a key impressioning tool or make TWO keys based on the VIN Number, and then program the chips in the key to the car. There is no bypass.

How to bypass security when you have no key.

It is not appropriate or legal to bypass security measures, such as locks, in order to gain access to a property or vehicle that you do not have permission to enter. Doing so can be considered trespassing or breaking and entering, which are punishable by law. If you have lost your key or do not have access to a property or vehicle, it is recommended that you contact the owner or the appropriate authorities for assistance. It is important to respect the rights of others and to seek legal means of accessing a property or vehicle if you do not have permission to enter.

How do I replace the ignition (keys's lost) in the steering?

did u get a key that was the proper code? these keys have a little piece of resistive wire embedded in the key, does the key u had made have that? if not it will not work, u can't just get a key cut, they have numbers to select the proper resistance value for the key to work with your security system.
