How to replace headllight lamp

Trying to replace headlight lamp for my 2008 suburban

help please

  • Anonymous May 02, 2009

Damn! I just wasted two hours in a vain attempt to get the headlight assembly out of my '08 Suburban. Now I find out it's a "dealer only" repair! Now I get to waste another four hours when I take it down to the shop! I never had this problem with any of my Fords...

I know your frustration! I cannot believe the complexity of changing the headlights. Chevy has tried to make this a dealer item only just to change a headlight bulb. I will try to explain the procedure unfortunately I do not have photos. First you will need to remove the wheel well liner (two bolts and two plastic push pins). Pull the wheel well housing back (you will need to turn the wheel/tire to gain access) and using a 7mm socket remove the plastic support piece that holds the bumper in place (two bolts). Pull the corner of the bumper down until you can locate the bottom bracket of the headlight assembly that is held by a 10mm bolt. Remove it. (Oh did I mention this is a two person job!) Next move to the front of the vehicle (hood up) and remove all the 10mm bolts holding the upper part of the grill (I think there are eight of them). Now remove the obvious top two bolts on the headlight assembly! With two people - one to work the headlight assembly and one to push down the bumper and pull out on the grill assemble, slowly and carefully pull the headlight assembly straight forward. You will need to be mindfully of the small tabs on the headlight assembly that like to get caught on bumper/grill. If you are just replacing the bulb, you should be able to move the headlight assemble far enough forward to gain access to the bulbs without totally removing the headlight assembly. What a ***** job! SHAME on GM.

How do I replace a left hand side low beam light on a Subaru Tribeca 2008

Inspect/Replace There can be slight variations in procedure from one model to another when replacing headlights. For instance, on some models the turn signal light assembly must be removed before the headlight can be replaced. Overall, however, the procedure does not differ much from the following typical instructions.
Make sure the replacement bulb is the same type and part number as the one that is being replaced.
f19-22.jpg Comparing the old and ther replacement headlamps. To Replace:
  • Remove the headlight bezel retaining screws. Remove the bezel. If necessary, disconnect the turn signal lamp wires.
  • Remove the retaining ring screws from one or both lights.
  • Remove the retaining rings.
  • Remove the light from the housing. Disconnect the wiring connector from the back of the light.
  • Push the wiring connector onto the prongs at the rear of the new light.
  • Place the new light in the headlight housing. Position it so the embossed number in the light lens is on the top.
  • Place the retaining ring over the light and install the retaining ring screws. Tighten them slightly.
  • Check the aim of the headlight and adjust it, if necessary.
  • Install the headlight bezel. Secure it with the retaining screws.
  • Connect the turn signal lamp wiring (if it was disconnected).

Replacing the headlights, lookin for help

Do you need to replace the LIGHT or the LENS?

The headlight is not too much trouble, go to your local auto parts store and get the correct light replacement.

With power off, open the hood, (usually you do not need to isolate the battery, but I am always advocating safety)

Go to the light you need to replace, the LAMP is configured with a plug in the back of it, unplug the lamp from the car's electrical system.

Next, press in and twist counter clockwise to release the old lamp from the socket.
DONT NOT TOUCH THE NEW LAMP GLASS WITH YOUR FINGERS.
Your finger (everyone elses too) have iol residue on them that will shatter the glass when it gets hot..

Use rubber gloves or a paper towel, and replace the lamp unsing the exact reverse of the removal procedure.

Reconnect the electrical plug, reconnect the battery, and test the lamp.

If it is properly in the socket, you should not have to re-aim it.

If you need to change the LENS, please get the Haynes or Chilton manual, it gives much better directions than I could here.

good luck and don't forget to vote!!!

I have a 2008 Ford Fusion and the passenger side head lamp will not come on. The fog lights and driver side head lamp works but the passenger side will not work on bright or on dim, what could this be?

Hi. Since the headlight on the driver side is working then we dont have any problem with the fuse or relay. Check the wiring and the socket of the passenger headlight if it is intact to the bulb. If it is intact, then this could be a headlight problem. Time to replace the passenger headlight.

I want to replace the headlight and the owners

It's talking about the headlamp bezel, the bezel is a band that goes around the parimeter of the lamps and holds it in the "headlight bucket". The screws may be a T15 Torx, if it looks like an allen head but an allen won't fit try a Torx driver.

My headlight is burned out and I do not know how to replace it.

Open the hood, look behind the headlight. there should be a black plastic ring on the headlight wiring harness. Unscrew the black ring and pull it back. The turn and remove the headlight.
