1992 ford explorer. I cant find the hole to release the pin to remove the cylinder lock from the steering column.

There is a small hole in the bottom of the steering column cover. You need to use a small pick to in this hole with the key in the run position to push the pin to release the lock cylinder.

Are you aware? you have the key and tumbler and another part under the dash on the steering column called the ingition switch.
They both have to be aligned in sync to operate properly.
Question? is this a tilt steering wheel,if it is and you dont know anything about it I suggest you get a professionel to do this kind of job.
You really have to know what your doing for this one.

Did the battery get changed recently? There is a small black box under dash near steering colom that has a little red button on it. Press the little button for a few secounds allowing it to reset the security system. It should stop your marker lights from flashing. It was a stock security for that year. The box is about 4 inch square and is usually just under dash near your knee. Good luck.

Replacing gear shift handle on column

under the cylnder is a very small hole. put the key in the switch and turn it until all the dash lights come on. then take a very still object like a small punch and push it in the small hole and pull out the ignition switch. sometimes u might have to hit the punch to push in the button.
