The early XJ8s were designed to operate as you describe, only kicking the fans in with the AC which is fine when the cars warming up (in fact it helps the car warm up faster & use less fuel), however, Jaguar realised in some climates this was causing overheating, later ones (99my on) operate constantly with the ignition on at slow speed & speed up if it detects it needs to.

This is a complex 2 relay system with alot of wiring that goes into the ECU & cant easily be retrofitted to your one.

I`d advise you to take the car to a good auto electrician & ask him to fit a manual switch on the dash with a relay to the fans so you can turn it on manually when its warmed up (if he can fit a slow speed relay with a resistor as well as a full power one, all the better, as you dont want to over cool either).

I`d also advise you to get the thermostat changed every year & the water pump to be upgraded to the current spec one, as these are both known issues that occur & also cause overheating.

have someone pull the release while you lift upon the side that wont open. you should be able to get it to unlatch that way

When i turn off the car the fan continues to run?

Many cars have this feature. The fan will run for a few minutes at a time until the coolant in the radiator drops below a certain temperature. Most vehicles with this feature will have a warning label on the radiator shroud indicating that the fan may start without warning when the engine or radiator is still hot. The only time you would need to be concerned would be if the fan continues to run without turning itself off, and causing the battery to be drained.

Got 1983 mercedes benz 500 SE.. running hot after idleing for longer than 30 mins and dont last long while driving.. i changed the thermostat and the radiator cap still having same problem.. what else...

this car is equipped with an electric cooling fan, best guess is it is not working, that is why it gets hot when idling or driving around town in stop and go traffic. but when you get out on the road it cools down because their is more air moving through the radiator. the fans should come on at around 222 degrees take a look i bet they are not coming on at all.

My transmission fault message is coming on and it does not want to accelerate fast. do you have any answers? My Jaguar is a xj8 1997 model

A small leak over period time will cause fault light (amber) to come on. There is no dipstick. Can only be refilled by dealer or certified Jag Mechanic. Cost of fluid at dealer $60. Quart. Check online; $15 quart

cooling system is air locked to bleed it run engine then when cool remove the expansion bottle cap and top up then do it again a couple more times to get the air out

1998 jaguar xj8 fan is on

I have a 1997 XJ6 that had the problem with the cooling fans running constantly. I had to remove the fuse to turn it off to keep the battery from running down. It turned out my solution was that an A/C sensor on the firewall (there are two) was bad. When I replaced it the problem went away.
