The process of removing car door panels is essentially the same for each make of car. You may need to remove these panels when your fixing locks or power windows, replacing window cranks, installing speakers or replacing the side mirrors. Learning how to remove the panels yourself can save money on simple car repairs.

Difficulty: Moderately EasyInstructionsThings You'll Need
  • Set of screwdrivers
  • L pick
  • Small flashlight
  • Ratchet and socket
    • 1

Check out how the door panels are attached to the car. Most panels use screws and bolts but others have snap-in fittings. Gather all the tools you need for removing the door panels. If the panel is attached with screws and bolts, you need a screwdriver or ratchet and socket. Car door panels with snap-in fittings are easily removed with a flathead screwdriver.

    • 2

Locate where the screws and bolts are before starting. These are usually found in the arm rest area, along the bottom or sometimes near the door lights.

    • 3

Roll down the car door window. Begin removing all screws and bolts that hold the door panel onto the car. If your car has snap-in fittings, pry gently on the bottom corner of the door panel until the fittings pop out.

    • 4

Remove the power window control panel if your car has power windows. The control panel should pry out easily, and then you unplug the wiring harness from the back and place it to the side.

    • 5

Use an L pick and flashlight when locating a manual window crank. Look behind the window crank and slide the pick under the edge of the metal clip that holds the crank in place. Remove the clip and pull the crank off.

    • 6

Remove the door handle by unscrewing the small screw located in the center. Gently pull the door handle out until you see the back of the handle and unclip the rod from the door handle. This should remove the handle unless the handle and door lock are attached, then you just unclip the rod from the lock and remove them both together.

    • 7

Unscrew the cap off rear upper corner door panel locks. These don't have a rod attaching them to the handle and unscrew separately from the door handle.

    • 8

Pop the door panel off after you've removed everything. Gently pry on the bottom edge of the door panel until it releases. Pull out and up to completely remove the door panel.

SOURCE: How to remove door handle on 99 oldsmobile aurora

unscrew the 2 screws on the bottom of the inside panel, then unscrew the large phillips head right behind the interior handle and remove the plastic cover next, you need something stiff and wide and flat, like a large meal file with a t-shirt wrapped around it so it doesnt **** up the leather pry it UP and a little bit outward and it will pop off, I was going on the fly and broke the little brackets and I had to us 1minute gasket to seal them back on really well. the connectors come off by the little clips on the side, stick a flathead along he side of the connectors and they will click out, you will feel them slip loose. not the panel should come free from the coor. next you need to remove the flat metal cover that has 2 bolts in it, basically right in the middle with the right side bolt touching the lock mechanism as well. it will unbolt then slide the tabs down and out...easy. the door handle is held on by 2 bolts, youll have to squeeze your hands to the right of the metal slider for the window and over the metal bars for the lock. I got the left one with a wrench and the right one I had to stick my left hand where I mentioned and m right hand had the wrench. the handle will be free by then, and you can slide the left side out first. then gently pull the bottom of the handle housing out and to the left at the same time and it will pop out. un-screw the two bolts to remove the bars from the lock on the bottom and the top elbow comes off as one piece with the metal bar going downward.
and there you go buddy...I just had to fix my door handle and it reuied removing it, just did it today. took about 2 hours, but I had no idea what was doing and had to figure out the mechanism by myself...computer broke conveniently enough!

SOURCE: How do I replace the

If you slide the door lock slider to the unlock position you can grab a hold of the end of it and pull towards you it's only held on by a clip embedded in the plastic. Once that's removed remove the trim panel behind it to gain access to the door handle assy.. The handle is riveted on to the door skin so you will have to drill out the rivet after that the handle will slide towards the front of the car about 1/2 inch and its free just disconnect the lock rod and install your new handle it sounds like a lot but is actually very easy

How to take the door panel off

Hi Austen, The general rule is as follows. Unscrew the door release handle cover and remove it. Look along the arm rest and locate the holes or the covers hiding the holes, remove the covers and with a medium size star screw driver remove the screws. Slide a flat blade at the bottom of the panel and gently lever the panel away from the door until you hear the sound of the clip releasing. Slide the flat blade along until the next is reached. Continue all along the panel and up the sides. Remove the rods or cables from the interior handle and lock mechanism. Lift the panel upwards and away from the upper lip of the door and your done! When assembling align the clips and push them home with a gentle pressure. Regards John

Passenger door latch does not open from out side

You need to remove the inner door panel on that door. After it is removed check that the rod to the door handle is still hooked up, You may find that it is connected but broken off the door handle itself. If that is the case install a new outer door handle on that door, hook the rod up and it should work.

I recently purchased a used 03 Chevy Venture van. The passenger sliding door doesn't open. It worked for 1 week and stopped. The driver side sliding door has a broken handle so I'm able to open that door...

Pain but fixable. Sounds like the linkage is not connected. Even a mechanic will have to remove the door panel and fight with it. If you can remove the rear seat from the drivers side side door then you might have room to remove the passenger side door panel to fix it. Usually clips are the first thing to break on door handle/latch linkages

How to replace passenger side mirror on1995 oldsmobile achieva?

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls. Then you can access the bolts that secure the mirror onto the door

Rear passenger window just slides how do I get the door panel off

Well first take the mirror cover off. Then the roll up window handle if its manual. There is a star head behind the handle to open the door, remove that and unplug all wiring. Then behind the handle to close the door there is a cover, it has 2 screws, take those out and the rest is just plastic door clips just pull away from the door and they will start coming off.

My driver side mirror broke off on 1999 olds silhouette can't get door panel off found 2 bolts anything else or just force loose?

If you removed the 2 bolts near the handle (1 you reach by removing the lock & pwr windows control panel by prying it up, it will pop loose) there are plastic bolts/clips that press in through openings around the edge of the door panel. Just pry out slowly and they should pop out. Work your way around the door. It should slide off over the release handle which you may want to pull outward so it slides over it easier. I just did this 2 days ago to replace my passenger mirror.

Broken exterior door handle, passenger sider ,sliding

Got this idea from mpvclub.com: Get some stainless or aluminum sheet metal screws, drill pilot hole into the handle and into the receiving part behind, then screw in the screw. Do on both sides of handle (get appropriate length screw.) When done, get some putty or hardener to fill in the screw slot, let dry, then sand smooth, then paint with body color. Result is great and inexpensive.
