I just purchased a 97 f-250 diesel (as you couldn't guess), and it has an awkward problem... For some reason, the blinkers keep blowing a fuse along with something in reguards to the ABS. The ABS light keeps flashing at me, and i have changed fuses for both systems multiple times. If the ABS light starts flashing at me on the dash, the blinkers completely quit as well. this is frustrating me, and I'm lost with the troubleshooting right now. Can anybody give me a hand??!!
Hello,
If your low beams work it's not the multi-function switch located on your steering column (two bolts and a plug). If you unplug the abs sensor on the rear differential and the ABS stays on and your blinkers work and you don't blow fuses could be the sensor. However, if this is not it you may have a ground problem (micro-friction). Usually these two systems are not connected and these may be completely different issues.
Possible Scenario: aftermarket stereo installed incorrectly.
Scenario Two: both of these sytems have bare wires and touch every so often causing your grounding problem. (There is a fuse-vibration testing technique that can be used to find the bare-wire(s))
Try to fix the blinker problem first you may find the ABS problem along the way (common wires of Blinker/ABS bundled together.
Trace and inspect.
Hope this helps--

Whenever
this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating
that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of
lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected
a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM,
SRS, TPMS and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You
must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool
and "scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for
the problem(s)
