1996 Chevy S10 stalls out 3 times before steady start

Our 1996 Chevy S10 (4.3 V6 Vortec, standard trans.) runs pretty good...after the effort of starting it. On average, it takes three tries to start the truck. When trying to start, the engine (involuntarily) revs up high (between 3 and 4rpm) and then stall out. After about three times of this, it starts up and runs great. Please Help!!

i have a 96 jimmy 4.3L w/ csefi its a very hard cold starter with the engine cold key on engine not running my fuel pressure only comes up to 54 psi after several cycles of cranking it over i can usually start it after it starts my fuel holds steady at 52 psi. after it warms up i can shut it off and restart easily and my initial fuel pressure be fore cranking the engine is 61 psi. should i be looking at the pump or the regulator since the problem dissapears with the engine warm and the regulator is in side the intake manifold on my model

Check for loose or cracked vacuum lines, and/or the rotor. It may not be making consistant contact.

Is your "Service Engine Soon" light on?

Have you scanned for fault codes?

I would suspect low fuel rail pressure...caused by a tired fuel pump.

I don't know. But I do know that any well run auto parts yard has interchange books for exactly this kind of question. Basically, any standard transmission can be made to work if you are willing to spend enough time and money. It is usually best and cheapest to stay with the factory trans.

89-98 chevy blazer

It's not worth doing all that conversion, buy the time you spend the time and money to convert the 89 4.3 to work on the 98 blazer, it would be cheaper to install a 98 vortec rebuild. The 89 4.3 have a TBI fuel injection system and the ecm on the 98 will not work and the bad news is that the ecm on the 98 also controls the transmission shift points and the 89 will not, so even if you swap the ecm to have the 89 4.3 engine work. the transmission will not shift. Sorry for the bad news but it would be cheaper to replace the 98 engine with the years of 1996 to 2001. Good luck and hope this helps.

Takes at least 3 tries to start

check under the hood for vacuum leaks this could cause both the heater and the running problem

your flap is controled by engine vacuum and if there is a hose off under the hood you may fix both problems
