I hope there's a fuse that protects against this common mistake, anybody know if there is and where it is? The car turns over fine, but just won't start. The cables were hooked up correctly on the donor vehicle, but reversed on my Hyundai. No smoke or anything, but the cables got hot and I tried to crank it a couple times before I realized the mistake.
Run the fault codes but a fried ECM and alternator are distinct possibilities
Can't locate a wiring diagram, but probably did blow a fuse. Use a test light and check all fuses in the under hood power distribution center, or junction block or fuse/relay block, or whatever it is called-the fuse block under the hood.
Watch you tube video to see how to check fuses with test light. You do not need to pull fuse out to check. Just probe both ends of the fuse (in the little slot at top ends of the fuses). If test light lights up at both ends of the fuse-that fuse is good, so move to next fuse. Any fuse that only lights a fuse on one end means that fuse is blown. Key switch must be in on position so that all fuses have power to them. You may have blown one or more of the maxi fuses that protect the alternator or electronic components. Just hope it was only a fuse and not the alternator or the engine computer. But fuses should protect those parts.
Your mistake is going to cost you. The reverse polarity has burned out some critical circuits in your Hyundai - maybe the computer!

Have you changed your transmission fluid? I am assuming that it is automatic.Could be low on transmission fluid. Could also be filters in you tranny stopped up with slug/ gear shivers.Could also be band
in transmission needs adjusting.
SOURCE: Squealing noise when in reverse
Is the noise under the hood? or where?
If under the hood, most likely the engine has a bad motor mount. The engine will "twist" slightly to one direction when driving forward and "twist" in the opposite direction when you drive in reverse.
When it is twisted (in reverse) an engine pulley or fanbelt is scraping on some plastic part, or whatever, and making the noise.
If not under the hood, it may be one of the front brake pads that have a "worn brake pad" sensor. The sensor is an L-shaped piece of metal that scrapes the rotor when the brake pad backing gets too close to the rotor, hence worn brake pads.
If the noise is somewhere else, maybe another "expert" has a suggestion.
Please post more information... Thank you.

P0734 - 4th gear incorrect ratio. P1529 Malfunction Indicator Lamp Request. Problem is in the transmission.
Take/Tow your vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealership and pay the diagnostic fee... they will tell you exactly what the problem is and the cost of parts/labor to fix it... at least this way you'll know what the problem is and what's required to fix it.

yes you have an engine misfire, probably a bad spark plug or plug wire, maybe a coil issue, do not continue to drive it or you will do severe damage to the catylitic converter
