1996 Honda Civic Alternator SP Sense Fuse Blowing...

I have a 1996 Honda Civic that blows the Alternator SP Sense fuse upon startup; as a result the battery is not charging & the car runs on battery only... Also of note: The dashboard idiot light for charge doesn't come on to tell me there is a problem... I replaced the alternator & battery recently because I thought they were bad but that didn't take care of my fuse blowing problem... I'm starting to suspect that the Electrical Load Detector has a problem but I'm not totally sure... I scanned the computer with a friend's unit & came up with no relavent codes. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you...

Sounds like a short to ground. Get a wiring diagram and trace the circuit that keeps blowing the fuse...Look for burnt or bare wires...Good Luck!

Keep blowing horn fuse

There is likely a shorted wire in the circuit, allowing the current to spike and blow the fuse.

My 89 civic lx keeps blowing the battery fuse everytime I connect the battery

My first guess would be a short inside the alternator, so if you have replaced it, look for a shorted wire in the harness.
Disconnect the wires from the alternator and everything connected to the battery, then connect one at a time until the fuse blows.
Could be a problem with the starter solenoid too.

ok first there could be a direct short in the ecu causing the fuse to blow OR the alternator/starter solenoid could be shorting out and blowing the fuse unhook the alternator and see if it blows the fuse then repeat with the starter and the ecu and let me know what happens

Alternator fuse blows

Kevin, chances are that when the new alternator was put on. The wires were put too close to something either hot or that it can rub on. If you do not find that this is the problem then return the alternator to the store and have it tested for internal problems. Bad Alternator can do this. Good luck
