I think it is the CPS "crank shaft position sensor" If this sensor goes out, it don't know what position the crank is in so therefore it will not fire. This is a BIG problem with the cherokee. The part is about $60 and usually located where the transmission meets the back of the engine. Very easy to replace. Since I'm not there it's not 100% sure but I would not be scared to say 95% since it is an issue. Good Luck...

ok it has nothing to do with the gear box
no ower to your injectors check engine fuse
if and wen u took the gear box out did take the positive lead off?
if u did unplug the computer or try the reset so the computer can no the car is back togeather

The crankshaft position sensor was seriously problematic in those old jeeps. It's located towards the top of the bell housing slightly to the driver's side I think.

I had this problem on my Jeep. The problem is in the ground. Clean or replace your battery terminals, that did it for me. Also check the ground to chassis connection, make sure its clean and tight.

the coil wasn't the problem we replaced it but it's not getting any spark or wanting to start what else can i try ?
The gages in the truck will no light up and or move so i don't know what else i can do ?
