SOURCE: smoking at higher rpms

Hi, its time for a ring set job in this vehicle. the blue smoke is a sign of major oil consumption due to bad piston rings. you also have faulty valve seals as well. this is deep engine repair and it will be costly.

If you cant do this job soon, be sure to watch the oil consumption by checking the level regularly and, monitor the oil pressure as well.

Hard to move gear shift 6 speed manual

That smell is your clutch material burning up from the engine reving and the clutch being partially engaged. When a clutch gets that hot a few things happen, the clutch disk material wears down giving less grab and the pressure plate overheats causing warpage, erratic engagement, slippage and weakening of the metal spring or flanges that apply pressure to the clutch pack. The clutch might be damaged, your (or the previous owners) driving habits may be wearing it at an accelerated rate or there could be a master/slave cylender issue.

Bit of a crunch changing down into third, can i do anything easy to help it?

If this is a manual transmission, check the clutch free play which should not be much more than about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. If ok, then you may need to replace the third gear synchromesh mechanism within the transmission. This entails a tear down of the transmission, so it would not be classified as an easy fix. Hope this helps!

im not 100% but i think that truck has a hydraulic clutch. if it does for sure then check the fluid level if its a cable or linkage type then it may be out of adjustment. Ether way (low on fluid or out of adjustment) the clutch may not be fully disengaged while your trying to shift. Start there before getting to far into it.

Problem with 1993 nissan altima PLEASE HELP

It is a clutch problem. Do you know if you have a hydraulic clutch or a clutch cable? If you have a cable, it might need adjusted. If you have hydraulic you might have a bad slave cylinder or clutch master cylinder.
