Toyota Parts Crisis? Tacoma/4Runner 3.4l V6 Head Gasket Leakage Problem

I have been looking for information on other Toyota truck owners who have the same problem I do: My brand new $28,000 1996 Tacoma 4wd SR5 pickup has been sitting at the dealer service department for 26 days as 1/7/97. There is a problem with the head gasket leaking coolant, and they do not have the part available. I was told that it could be another two weeks! I don't have time right now to give you all the specifics, but I will be happy to E-mail you more information about my situation. I am going to type up a form letter that I can send to Toyota Motor Corp., auto magazines, the media, etc. I have a feeling that I'm not the only one very upset about this, and stuck without their Toyota. I am quickly finding out that the "Lemon Laws" enacted to "protect consumers" is nothing more that a catch 22 circular cycle of BS that keeps consumers from having any recourse when they have been ripped off. Please e-mail me if you want more information on this or can give me any advice. Sincerely, Kent F. Cunneen It's been awhile since you posted, but I have a 2005 tacoma 4x4 and the head gasket seems to be leaking. I sure would like to know more about a possible recall. How did things turn out for you?

Could you please clarify your issue? I would be very glad to help, but, your post seems to indicate that your vehicle was in the shop 11 years ago. And, if your time frame is correct, there WAS a parts issue back then, the redesign of the head gaskets was late, and it was true the there was insufficient parts availability. Please repost.

Hi i have a V6 toyota tacoma 2005. it developed stuttering/ flat spots at 40-50km/h, and is using incredible amounts of fuel. no warning lights on the dash, i tried scanning it anyway with a disgnostic...

With the limited information given, first thing to do is start with the air cleaner and make sure it is clean. Next look at the ignition system; are the spark plugs in good shape as well as the ignition wiring. Bad gasoline can cause your problem also. Try taking off the fuel filter and draining it from the inlet into a clear jar and see how much crud and / or water is there. You may have gotten a bad tank of gas with something like diesel fuel contaminating it which may be hard to detect. If there is brown slimy stuff in the radiator, you've blown a head gasket for sure; however I've seen head gasket problems that weren't very obvious. Things like a bad sensor, a burned valve or timing chain skipping a tooth should show up as an engine code. That's about all the help I can give with the limited symptoms you listed

1999 ford explorer blown head gasket. is it ok for the head be resurfaced. V6

well experts recommend that, i replaced a head gasket to a 94 toyota 4runner and i did not resurfaced, all i did was a visual inspection of valves springs seats etc,and of course a good clean aruond both surfaces, block and head, if all this looks good, go ahead, goodluck. head bolts must torque to spec. good luck

What other motors can replace the factory 94 toyo 4runner V6 3.0?

NO your best bet is to remove both heads and send them away for crack testing and surface grinding plus make sure the block has a flat and clean serface ,no water holes eaten away and near to the cylinder bores, if all ok then get the heads done and tighten down to correct tension which you will get on the VRS (valve regrind set). then it will last for years

1997 4Runner oil quantity

For a V6 # Liter engine, you will use a galon and almost half (that is about 6 Liters of oil). I use a Toyota camry V6 3 Liter engine that shares the same engine with the Toyota 4Runner.

1991 toyota 4runner v6 auto rough start

Possibly a leaking head gasket. Water/antifreeze seeps into the cyllinder when it cools off, and then it won't fire properly until the coolant is blown out the exhaust when you start it. Let it warm up with the rad cap off. If you see bubbles continuously coming up to the filler hole, you have a head gasket problem. Do you have to add coolant monthly, or weekly?
If you're lucky, it could be just a spark plug that doesn't want to do anything until it warms up, or it could be a valve.

Fuse box for the 06 V6 sport

Would recommend checking your owners manual if you have it. There should be a listing for the fuse block which should show you all the fuses and what they are for. Hope this helps.

Head gasket on my 1990 toyota V6 3.0

I would highly recommend that you go to the local parts store and purchase a Haynes Manual for your vehicle, they are around $ 25.00 Canadian. As when you do your head gasket you wil need to remove your timing belt and this is a procedure in it's self. then you will neen certain torque settings. This manual will provide you with all of this information step by step. they are designed for the do it yourselfer. They also cover many other issues that you may come across through out the ownership of your vehicle. I know that the last ting you need is an added exspence but these manuals are well worth the small investment. There is a site that you can find hrough google search that you can find factory service repair manuals for your vehicle, however they only have a layout for a 4 cylinder engine in there drawings and this is alot different then the 6 cylinder. As the procedure for repairs is totally different. I hope that this helps and that you take the time to rate any solutions you receive. Good Luck.
